Erling Haaland has cemented his status in international football history by becoming the highest-scoring Nordic male player of all time. The Manchester City striker achieved the milestone on September 24, 2026, after scoring twice in Norway’s 3-2 UEFA Nations League victory over Denmark.
The 26-year-old forward reached a career total of 64 international goals, surpassing the historic marks of Sweden icon Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Brazil legend Ronaldo Nazario, who each finished their careers with 62 goals. What makes Haaland’s achievement even more remarkable is the speed at which he reached the milestone, hitting the 64-goal mark in just 56 appearances for his country and maintaining an extraordinary scoring rate of 1.14 goals per game.
During the thriller against Denmark, Oscar Bobb got Norway on the scoreboard first in the 14th minute. Haaland quickly doubled the advantage four minutes later following a precise pass from Antonio Nusa. Although Denmark fought back with equalizers from Mikkel Damsgaard and Rasmus Hojlund, Haaland stepped up once again in the 74th minute, finishing off a short-corner routine to secure a historic win.
Reaction from the Norwegian camp praised the striker’s natural abilities. Norway manager Stale Solbakken noted that the player’s talents go beyond coaching. “It is not possible to explain, nor is it possible to learn. He is born with it. It is instinct,” Solbakken remarked. Midfielder Sander Berge added, “It’s madness. It’s everyday business that Haaland scores goals, so it’s reasonable that he is up there, but it’s powerful.”
With this latest record-breaking performance secured, Haaland and the Norwegian squad turn their attention to their upcoming fixture against Portugal on Sunday.
