Heavy metal legends Metallica officially launched their highly anticipated 24-show residency. Titled “Life Burns Faster,” the residency began at the state-of-the-art Sphere in Las Vegas on October 1, 2026. The band played a career-spanning, 16-song set to a packed house at the 17,600-capacity venue. They combined their classic catalog with the arena’s revolutionary 16K wraparound LED screen and Sphere Immersive Sound system powered by HOLOPLOT.

The residency consists of 24 concerts scheduled across 12 paired “No Repeat Weekends.” Performances take place on Thursdays and Saturdays through March 13, 2027. Following the format successfully introduced on their M72 World Tour, the band ensures that no two songs are repeated across a weekend’s pairing. This format gives dedicated fans a completely fresh experience if they attend multiple nights.

Opening Night Highlights and Rare Live Tracks

On opening night, Metallica drew tracks from across their legendary history. They started with 1986’s “Battery” as the show opener. This marked the first time the track opened a set since July 2024. The setlist touched on eras ranging from 1984’s Ride the Lightning all the way to 2023’s 72 Seasons.

Die-hard fans received notable live surprises. These included the first performance of “Now That We’re Dead” in five years and the title track to 1988’s classic …And Justice for All, which had not been performed live since August 2014. The set also featured a dedication of “The Call of Ktulu” to late bassist Cliff Burton. Other featured songs included staple anthems like “Creeping Death,” “Sad but True,” “Nothing Else Matters,” and a closing rendition of “Master of Puppets.”

Uncharted Territory at the Sphere

Drummer Lars Ulrich noted that the inspiration to bring Metallica to the venue struck quickly. After watching U2 open the venue in September 2023, Ulrich knew the band had to perform there. He called the venue “completely uncharted territory.”

The residency was originally announced in February as an eight-date run. However, overwhelming demand prompted Metallica to swiftly expand the schedule to 24 total nights. These dates span October and November 2026, as well as dates in January, February, and March 2027. This marks the first major heavy metal residency at the architectural marvel, which is nestled near the Venetian Resort just off the Las Vegas Strip.
