Tragic Discovery on Panoramic Hill

According to the Oakland Police Department, officers responded to a distress call at 499 Panoramic Way at approximately 10:45 a.m. A neighbor reported hearing gunfire and subsequently discovered the married couple outside the residence. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by responding officers and medical personnel, both victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Investigators confirmed that a firearm was recovered at the property and noted that the victims sustained apparent gunshot wounds. Assistant Police Chief Casey Johnson addressed reporters during a Friday evening press conference, stating that authorities were not currently seeking any additional suspects and that there was no ongoing threat to the general public. The department’s Homicide Division has launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Surveillance Footage and Community Reaction

Local news outlet KPIX reviewed surveillance footage from the vicinity that captured the sequence of events. According to the broadcast, the audio recording picked up the sound of an initial gunshot, followed by a man crying and screaming, a second gunshot, and subsequent silence.

Neighbors and local residents expressed deep sorrow over the loss. The property, situated just east of the Berkeley border, is located in an affluent neighborhood known for its scenic views and proximity to the University of California, Berkeley campus. Neighbors described the couple as quiet and private individuals who largely kept to themselves.

Alessandro Isolani, a long-time resident of Panoramic Hill, told reporters he heard two loud bangs before emergency services arrived. “It’s shocking. I’ve lived up here on Panoramic Hill for 20-something years, and I have never seen any violent crime up here,” Isolani said.

Legacy of the Bryn Walker Fashion Brand

Michelle Walker, publicly registered as Michelle Min, was a visionary clothing designer who launched the Berkeley-based fashion house Bryn Walker in 1992. Alongside her husband Bryan, who managed the business operations as CEO, she built a nationally recognized brand known for versatile, practical, and timeless women’s clothing.

The company expanded significantly over three decades, wholesaling to roughly a thousand boutiques across the United States, maintaining standalone retail locations in Berkeley and Massachusetts, and partnering with major department stores such as Dillard’s. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the brand demonstrated community commitment by partnering with Bay Area nonprofit It Takes A Village to manufacture and donate tens of thousands of fabric face masks and face shields to local hospitals.

Ongoing Investigation

The Alameda County coroner’s office placed a temporary press hold on the formal release of the victims’ identities pending family notifications, though local authorities and neighbors quickly identified the couple. The Oakland Police Department urges anyone with additional video footage, photographs, or information regarding the incident to contact the Homicide Section at 510-238-3821, the tip line at 510-238-7950, or via email at cidvideos@oaklandca.gov.
