Scottish alternative rock band Twin Atlantic has cancelled its upcoming UK headline tour just days after releasing its eighth studio album, Separation From the Animals. The band cited the personal toll taken during the record’s production.
The Glasgow-formed group was scheduled to begin the tour on October 16, with planned stops in Dundee, Leeds, Birmingham, and their hometown. Band members Ross McNae, Barry McKenna, Craig Kneale, and Sam McTrusty announced the pause to spend time at home with their families after reaching a point of reflection.
Intense Album Production Took a Personal Toll
Released on Friday, Separation From the Animals marked a major milestone for the band by bringing them back together in recording studios after years apart. However, the self-produced project demanded an intense creative commitment that ultimately affected the members personally.
In a public statement shared with fans, the band explained:
Making this record has been one of the band’s greatest gifts as it brought us all back into recording studios together again after many years apart. However, diving into some of the subject matter on this album and self-producing it with the intense passion that we approached it with has taken its toll on us in a personal way that we haven’t experienced before. Rather than ignoring the signals here, we are making the very difficult decision to take some time to pause and therefore cancelling our upcoming UK tour.
Impact on Fans and Support Acts
The sudden cancellation affects several high-profile dates, including a performance at SWG3’s Galvanizers in Glasgow on October 23, 2026. Support acts such as The Xcerts were also slated to join the tour before the cancellation was announced.
Addressing disappointed ticketholders, Twin Atlantic expressed deep regret for the disruption to travel and event planning:
- Full refunds are available from the original point of purchase for all ticket holders.
- Support band The Xcerts announced they would instead embark on their own headline tour in January and February, performing at venues like the Glasgow Art School.
- Twin Atlantic has given no firm timeline for a future return to the live stage, choosing instead to focus entirely on personal well-being and family.
Looking Toward the Light
Formed in Glasgow in 2007, Twin Atlantic has established itself as a staple of the Scottish rock scene, earning multiple UK top 40 albums and performing major festival slots at TRNSMT and Belladrum.
Despite stepping away from the road, the band remains proud of their latest work, emphasizing that the record explores the complex interplay of love, light, and darkness.
“This album is truly about love and at its core the light and darkness that such a complex emotion can bring into your life,” the band concluded. “Keeping our focus on the light is what we need for many reasons right now and we hope to see you all again soon.”
