Singer-songwriter FKA Twigs has officially resolved her legal dispute against her former partner Shia LaBeouf in the Los Angeles County Superior Court. This ends a clash over non-disclosure provisions and frees her to speak about her past relationship.
The agreement was reached before the case proceeded to court trials, according to legal filings reported on October 7, 2026. Twigs requested the full dismissal of the suit after both parties agreed that the contested confidentiality language would be formally voided. This removed restrictions that previously barred her from discussing her experiences publicly.
Background of the Legal Battle
The underlying legal battle originated from a December 2020 lawsuit. In this filing, Twigs-whose legal name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett-accused LaBeouf of s*xual battery, assault, and emotional distress during their relationship between July 2018 and May 2019. LaBeouf previously denied all allegations of abuse. That initial litigation eventually ended with an out-of-court settlement finalized in July 2025.
Following that settlement, LaBeouf’s legal team initiated an arbitration demand. They claimed Barnett breached the confidentiality terms of the deal during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. In response, Barnett filed a lawsuit in March. She sought a court order to block him from enforcing portions of the nondisclosure agreement, arguing that the restrictions violated California’s Stand Together Against Non-Disclosure (STAND) Act.
The Stand Together Against Non-Disclosure Act
Enacted in the wake of the #MeToo movement, California’s STAND Act prohibits non-disclosure agreements in settlement cases involving s*xual harassment, discrimination, and related offenses. This prevents secret settlements from masking misconduct. LaBeouf’s lawyers had previously argued the law did not apply because Barnett’s initial claims focused on s*xual battery rather than standard s*xual harassment.
However, the newly finalized agreement completely nullifies the disputed clauses. Mathew Rosengart, an attorney representing Barnett, emphasized the broader impact of the resolution in a statement to the court.
Twigs stood up for something larger than herself, female survivors of s*xual abuse. This victory frees her to discuss her experience, advocate for other women who might be less privileged, and support the charitable causes of her choice.
Reactions From Legal Teams
Shawn Holley, an attorney representing LaBeouf, also addressed the conclusion of the dispute in a separate statement, confirming that the actor agreed to end the conflict.
“Shia wishes Twigs nothing but the best in her life and career and, to that end, has agreed to end their long-standing dispute,” Holley stated. “Twigs has spoken about this matter for years and there is now nothing to prevent her from continuing to do so.”
With the agreement fully executed, the court documents confirm that all related arbitration claims have been dismissed. This allows both parties to permanently close the chapter on the multi-year legal conflict.
