A resurfaced Letterboxd video featuring actress Megan Fox and director Karyn Kusama has drawn intense online criticism after social media users heavily focused on Fox’s appearance. The footage, released on Thursday, October 1, as part of Letterboxd’s “Four Favorites” series, was originally recorded in October 2025 during a special screening of their 2009 cult classic Jennifer’s Body at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles.
Although the segment was intended to highlight the cinematic preferences and influences of Fox and Kusama-with discussions covering films like Braveheart, The Lion King, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze, and the Harry Potter series-online commentary quickly shifted away from movies. Instead, numerous social media users questioned how Fox looked compared to earlier periods of her career, with some labeling her “unrecognizable.”
Context Behind the Video and Online Backlash
As the video circulated across Instagram and other social platforms, the comment sections filled with speculation regarding cosmetic procedures and changes to the actress’s face. The reaction grew so intense that Letterboxd eventually disabled comments on its official Instagram post.
This cycle of scrutiny mirrors previous incidents in Fox’s career. In February 2024, photographs from a Super Bowl after-party similarly sparked social media speculation about her appearance. Fox responded directly at the time by sharing alternative images from the event, attributing the perceived differences to shadowy phone photography, poor lighting, and camera angles.
Fans and Supporters Defend Megan Fox
In response to the negative commentary, many fans and supporters pushed back against the online shaming. Supporters emphasized a crucial timeline detail: the footage was recorded in October 2025, approximately seven to eight months after Fox welcomed her fourth child. Commenters pointed out that postpartum body changes, weight fluctuations, and sleep deprivation are completely normal, making appearance-focused attacks unfair and unwarranted.
Additionally, advocates criticized the constant pressure placed on female public figures regarding aging and cosmetic choices. Fox herself has previously addressed public interest in her physical appearance with candor. During a 2024 appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she discussed the stigma surrounding cosmetic procedures, stating:
“I don’t understand the point of shaming people for getting stuff done… It’s a very weird thing to shame somebody for. People think I’ve had way more done than I actually have.”
