Actor Chris Hemsworth is taking his physical preparation to the next level while filming Netflix’s highly anticipated action sequel, Extraction 3. The 43-year-old star recently shared combat footage from a local gym in Thailand, showcasing his intensive Muay Thai training as production nears its final stretch.
The 12-second video, posted by Hemsworth on October 7, captures a shirtless actor working the pads, throwing sharp combinations, and executing powerful kicks. The session took place inside a St. Regis gym in Bangkok, where Hemsworth trained alongside Thai boxing instructor Boonsanong Borchae, widely known as Jack.
Hemsworth acknowledged his sparring partner directly in his social media caption, writing, “Shooting Extraction 3 in Thailand and have been lucky enough to hit pads with my good mate @jack_boonsanong. Thank you, brother.”
Production Nears Completion in Thailand
According to reports from the Bangkok Post, principal photography for Extraction 3 is scheduled to wrap on Friday. The production has spanned multiple locations, including Sydney and the New South Wales South Coast in Australia, before moving to Thailand.
Returning to Thailand marks a full-circle moment for the franchise. The first Extraction film, released on Netflix in April 2020, utilized Thai locations such as Ratchaburi to depict its gritty urban settings. Director Sam Hargrave is back at the helm, ensuring the third chapter maintains the high-octane, practical stunt work that defined the previous installments.
The Return of Tyler Rake and Familiar Faces
Hemsworth is officially reprising his role as Tyler Rake, the haunted black-ops mercenary who survived the harrowing events of the first two films. He is joined by returning cast members Idris Elba, who plays the mysterious operative Alcott, and Golshifteh Farahani as Nik Khan.
The screenplay for the third installment was written by Citadel showrunner David Weil, with Joe Russo co-crediting the story development. While strict plot details remain heavily guarded, the narrative is expected to pick up immediately following the dramatic cliffhanger ending of Extraction 2.
MMA Ambitions and Stunt Dedication
Hemsworth’s commitment to combat sports extends beyond the screen. Earlier in the year, during a conversation with actress Halle Berry, the actor discussed his genuine interest in mixed martial arts and a personal ambition to test himself in a professional MMA bout, though he has not confirmed plans to step into a real cage.
That long-standing background in combat training feeds directly into his physical transformation for Tyler Rake. Earlier this summer, Hemsworth shared minimal-equipment conditioning circuits from Costa Rica, demonstrating an intense focus on functional endurance and overall athleticism.
