A man died on Monday afternoon following a fatal incident on the Goliath rollercoaster at Six Flags Over Georgia in Austell, Georgia, according to local police and park officials. Several other people sustained injuries during the accident, which prompted authorities to launch a full investigation and temporarily evacuate the amusement park.

The incident occurred shortly before 4:00 p.m. local time. The Cobb County Police Department dispatched park-assigned and uniformed patrol officers to the scene. Detectives with the department’s Major Crimes Unit have taken over the investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the fatality.

While official confirmation regarding the precise cause of death has not been released, multiple witnesses provided harrowing accounts to local news station WXIA. According to witnesses on the ride, the man was ejected near the final stages of the Goliath rollercoaster’s course. One rider reported that the moving vehicle struck the man multiple times before he fell from the ride.

Another witness stated that the tragic moment was inadvertently captured on a souvenir photograph taken while the ride was in motion, showing the passenger out of the cart. Witnesses also reported that the man’s son was sitting nearby in the same carriage when the incident took place.

Emergency responders and park workers immediately halted operations. Aerial footage broadcast by local news helicopters showed passengers stranded on the Goliath ride while workers helped them safely descend via an adjacent service stairway. Riders on a separate train that had just begun its ascent were also e****ted down after being stuck on the incline for more than an hour.

Theme Park and Local Officials Respond

In an official statement, a spokesperson for Six Flags Over Georgia expressed profound grief over the accident.

“We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected. The park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details at this time.”

Local leaders also shared statements of support and condolences. Cobb County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Lisa Cupid said she could not imagine the horror witnessed by patrons and employees, offering her deepest sympathy to the affected family. Mableton Mayor Michael Owens noted that local public safety directors were actively coordinating with Cobb County police and park security.

Out of caution following the tragedy, Six Flags officials announced plans to temporarily close similar hypercoaster attractions across their nationwide park network while safety reviews are conducted.

Details of the Goliath Rollercoaster

The Goliath ride, manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard, opened to the public in 2006. Standing at an elevation of 200 feet with a 170-foot drop, a 540-degree spiral, and top speeds reaching 70 miles per hour, it is widely recognized as one of the park’s premier and most intense thrill rides.

The incident marks a somber moment for the Austell amusement park, which is located about 17 miles northwest of Atlanta. The ongoing investigation by Cobb County police aims to review safety protocols, restraint systems, and ride mechanics to understand exactly how the fatal ejection occurred.
