The Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., is intensifying its search for 53-year-old Antoinette Forbes. She is a communications executive and single mother who has been missing since early September. Authorities have classified her disappearance as a critical missing persons case. This has drawn widespread concern from family, friends, and community members as investigators examine her Northwest D.C. residence for clues.
Disappearance Under Mysterious Circumstances
Antoinette Forbes serves as the associate vice president and head of public affairs at pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly. She was last seen on September 4 in the 3200 block of Nebraska Avenue NW, near Foxhall Road. Friends and relatives grew alarmed when she failed to answer messages over the weekend. A friend checking on her home found the front door unlocked. Forbes’ wallet, two cell phones, laptop, car, and dog were all left behind.
The National Presbyterian Church, where Forbes is a congregation member, issued a statement expressing deep concern over her disappearance under “mysterious circumstances.” Friends, coworkers, and community members previously gathered for a vigil. They urged anyone with information, surveillance footage, or dashcam recordings from the area around the Labor Day weekend to contact law enforcement.
Forensic Investigation and Law Enforcement Response
Forensic investigators spent hours inside Forbes’ home. They carried out multiple brown paper bags and loaded them into transport vehicles. While authorities have not publicly disclosed what items were removed or whether they are considered direct evidence, sources close to the investigation indicate that homicide detectives have taken a leading role in the case.
Former D.C. homicide detective Kenneth Jarels noted that finding multiple personal items, including cell phones, keys, and an unlocked door, serves as a significant red flag for investigators. The Metropolitan Police Department maintains that the case remains an active and ongoing priority. However, they have not classified it as a homicide investigation or publicly named any suspects.
Ex-Partner Arrested on Probation Violation and New Charges
Meanwhile, developments have unfolded in Pennsylvania regarding Russell Ashford, 65. He is Forbes’ former partner and the father of her 10-year-old son. Ashford was taken into custody on September 12 during a traffic stop in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, on a Maryland warrant alleging a probation violation.
Court documents reveal that Ashford had been convicted of a brutal 2021 first-degree assault against Forbes. That attack left her with facial fractures and a concussion. He was originally sentenced to 15 years with all but nine months suspended, followed by supervised probation. Prosecutors allege Ashford violated the terms of his probation in July by attempting to contact the couple’s son unannounced at a summer camp in D.C. and obtaining unsupervised custody.
Following his arrest in Pennsylvania, local authorities filed seven new felony counts of possession of a prohibited firearm against Ashford. They allege he stored weapons at a girlfriend’s home. An extradition hearing to return Ashford to Maryland has been postponed while the Pennsylvania weapons charges are addressed. Investigators have not officially charged Ashford in connection with Antoinette Forbes’ disappearance.
Family and Friends Plead for Answers
Forbes’ sister, Aileen Forbes, has described her as her best friend and a devoted mother who would never voluntarily leave her son or her life behind. Loved ones and colleagues have remembered Forbes as brilliant, deeply loyal, and dedicated to her family and profession.
A GoFundMe campaign established to support search efforts and family expenses has raised over $19,000. Family and friends continue to urge the public to come forward with any potential leads.
