Netflix has officially completed production on The Woods, its upcoming British adaptation of Harlan Coben’s bestselling 2007 mystery novel. Filming wrapped following a six-month shoot across Greater Manchester and the North West of England, finishing where it began in Bolton. Final scenes were captured in the Heaton residential area and the historic Smithills Estate.

Production company Quay Street Productions marked the milestone on social media, thanking the cast and crew for their hard work. Lead star Michelle Keegan confirmed her final day on set through social media updates, alongside co-star Harry Goodson-Bevan.

Production Journey Across Greater Manchester and Bolton

Cameras began rolling on April 28, utilizing regional backdrops that have made the North West a favorite hub for mystery dramas. Throughout the six-month production schedule, crews filmed at several notable locations:

  • Le Mans Crescent, Bolton: Served as the starting point for the production, reinforcing Bolton’s reputation as a prime filming destination.
  • Walker Fold Car Park and Belmont Road: Situated near the Smithills Estate and the West Pennine Moors, these locations were utilized heavily during the final weeks of shooting.
  • Mount Street, Manchester: Artfully dressed by set designers to resemble a bustling university campus.

Plot and Character Details

The eight-part limited series centers on Paul “Cope” Copeland, played by Tom Bateman. Cope is a county prosecutor and single father haunted by the memory of his sister, Camille, who vanished during a summer camp two decades earlier.

The narrative shifts when evidence from a modern-day homicide investigation connects directly to the cold case. This forces Cope to question whether his sister might still be alive. To uncover the truth, he reunites with his first love, Lucy Silverfield, portrayed by Michelle Keegan. Together, they work to unpack twenty years of hidden secrets and lies.

Star-Studded Cast and Creative Team

Alongside Tom Bateman and Michelle Keegan, the ensemble cast features Mandeep Dhillon, Pearce Quigley, James Buckley, Rade Sherbedgia, Tom Allen, Shannon Watson, Pamela Nomvete, and Kerry Howard. Additionally, Tracy-Ann Oberman returns to the screen to reprise her role as Jessica Kinberg from the previous Coben adaptation Run Away.

The series is developed by a seasoned creative team. Harlan Coben serves as creator and executive producer, working alongside lead writer and executive producer Danny Brocklehurst. Nicola Shindler and Richard Fee also executive produce for Quay Street Productions, with direction handled by Andy De Emmony, Claire Tailyour, and Isher Sahota.

Release Window and Scheduling Shifts

Fans have grown accustomed to a new British Harlan Coben adaptation premiering every New Year’s Day, following the success of Fool Me Once, Missing You, and Run Away. However, Netflix confirmed that the holiday slot for 2027 will instead go to The Twin, a six-part crime noir starring Jamie Dornan and Mackenzie Davis.

Because production on The Woods wrapped in mid-October, post-production will run through the upcoming months. Netflix has not yet announced an official release date, though industry analysts anticipate the thriller will premiere in the first half of 2027.
