Music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been transferred from a federal prison in New Jersey to a lower-security facility in Pennsylvania, the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed on Friday, October 16, 2026. The 56-year-old artist is serving a 50-month federal sentence following his July 2025 conviction on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
Combs was moved from FCI Fort Dix to FCI Allenwood Low, located in Union County, Pennsylvania, roughly 155 miles west of New York City. A Bureau of Prisons spokesperson confirmed the relocation to media outlets but declined to comment on specific motivations, citing standard operating procedures.
“For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not discuss the conditions of confinement for any individual in our custody, including reasons for transfer,” a Bureau of Prisons spokesperson stated.
Context Surrounding the Prison Transfer
Federal officials have not officially linked the transfer to recent media reports regarding Combs’ time at Fort Dix. However, the relocation follows an investigative report published by NBC News alleging that Combs obtained unauthorized privileges, contraband technology, and paid assistance from fellow inmates while incarcerated in New Jersey.
According to reports, correctional union officials also pointed to internal disciplinary challenges. Jose Rojas, union secretary for AFGE Local 506, which represents federal correctional officers, noted that the move stemmed from disruptive behavior and rule infractions.
Following the initial investigations, prison officials previously placed Combs into the Special Housing Unit (SHU) and docked him 41 days of good-conduct credit. That penalty adjusted his projected release date from January 2028 to March 2, 2028.
Defense and Legal Team Response
Combs’ legal representatives and spokespersons have maintained that the transfer is consistent with normal administrative protocols. Juda Engelmayer, a spokesperson for Combs, emphasized that the move remains between two low-security institutions without increasing his security classification.
“His transfer from one low-security facility to another is an important distinction, and while we cannot speak to the BOP’s specific reasons for the move, it is consistent with a decision made with safety and security in mind,” Engelmayer told reporters.
Combs’ defense team continues to challenge both his conviction and sentence before the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Oral arguments took place on April 9, and the appellate court’s decision remains pending.
Comparison of Facilities: Fort Dix vs. Allenwood Low
- FCI Fort Dix (New Jersey): A larger low-security facility housing roughly 4,000 male inmates on the grounds of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
- FCI Allenwood Low (Pennsylvania): A smaller facility holding approximately 1,000 male inmates, part of the broader Allenwood Federal Correctional Complex.
- Notable Past Inmates at Allenwood Low: Former New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez and former pharmaceutical executive Martin Shkreli.
Despite the change in venue, Combs remains focused on his legal appeals and serving the remainder of his 50-month sentence under standard federal correctional guidelines.
