Amazon MGM Studios has expanded the cast of its upcoming supernatural horror film Summoner. Actors Stephanie Beatriz and Daniel Ings have joined the project, alongside previously announced stars Kevin Bacon and Giorgia Whigham. Production is currently underway, though Amazon MGM Studios has not yet announced a definitive theatrical release date.

The feature focuses on an experienced exorcist named Jefferson Haddock, played by Kevin Bacon. Haddock is dispatched to an isolated witness protection property to handle a dangerous presence. An unexpected accident during the assignment unleashes a catastrophic supernatural force, placing Haddock and everyone around him in mortal danger. Specific character details and roles for both Beatriz and Ings remain under wraps by the studio.

Behind the Camera: Jeremy Slater Makes Feature Directorial Debut

Summoner marks the feature-length directorial debut of writer and filmmaker Jeremy Slater, who also penned the screenplay. Slater brings extensive genre experience to the director’s chair. His previous credits include creating Marvel Studios’ Moon Knight, developing Netflix’s adaptation of The Umbrella Academy, and writing blockbusters such as Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Mortal Kombat II. He also served as showrunner for Fox’s television adaptation of The Exorcist.

The production features a heavyweight horror and thriller production team. Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, known for their work on It and IT: Welcome to Derry, are producing the film via their Nocturna banner alongside Russell Ackerman. Dan Kagan, who previously worked on the horror thriller Longlegs, serves as an executive producer.

Building a Star-Studded Cast

The addition of Beatriz and Ings brings notable small- and big-screen pedigree to the Amazon MGM project. Stephanie Beatriz is recognized for her run as Detective Rosa Diaz in NBC’s comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, alongside roles in Netflix’s A Man on the Inside and voice work in animated projects like Hazbin Hotel.

Daniel Ings boasts an expanding slate of television and film projects, including Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen, HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and Prime Video’s Kill Jackie alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones. Ings is also attached to Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter and David Leitch’s Jason Statham Stole My Bike.

Kevin Bacon Continues Steady Horror Run

For lead actor Kevin Bacon, Summoner marks another major dive into genre filmmaking. Bacon has maintained a consistent presence in horror, from his appearance in 1980’s Friday the 13th to genre staples like Tremors, Stir of Echoes, and Ti West’s 2024 slasher hit MaX*Xine. He also recently headlined Prime Video’s demonic bounty hunter series The Bondsman.

As production continues on location, fans await further casting announcements and an official theatrical release window from Amazon MGM Studios.
