Hulu has officially announced that its upcoming mystery series, Phony, will premiere on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Created by Nick Paley, the eight-episode production blends coming-of-age drama, dark comedy, and subtle supernatural elements into a narrative centered on family trust and teenage identity.
The series debuts with a two-episode release on premiere night. Following the launch, new episodes will air weekly on Tuesdays, leading up to the season finale on December 1, 2026.
What Is ‘Phony’ About?
The story follows Sonny Cooke, played by Sam Nivola, a teenager whose ordinary life is upended by a severe car accident. When Sonny wakes up in the hospital, he develops a deeply unsettling conviction: he believes the woman claiming to be his mother, Ellen, is an impostor.
Ellen-portrayed by Connie Britton-is Sonny’s single parent, closest confidant, and high school principal. While Sonny tries to figure out what happened to his real mother, his friends see nothing unusual about Ellen’s behavior. This leaves Sonny entirely alone to investigate whether his fears are justified or merely the result of post-accident trauma.
