Vietnam SUV Sales Surge in September 2026: Territory & VF 7 Gain

October 19, 2026 3 min read 0 comments

Vietnam’s C-segment SUV market experienced a robust recovery and expansion, recording 6,299 vehicle sales in September 2026. This performance marks a significant 49.3% increase compared to August figures, according to comprehensive market data compiled from Thanh Cong Group, the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), and VinFast. Amid fierce competition, models like the Ford Territory and the electric VinFast VF 7 recorded extraordinary monthly gains, while the perennial favorite Mazda CX-5 maintained its firm grip on cumulative sales leadership for the first nine months of the year.

The broader automotive landscape in Vietnam continues to lean heavily into high-riding crossovers and SUVs. September’s sharp uptick underscores a shifting consumer preference toward spacious family vehicles equipped with modern safety features and diverse powertrain options, ranging from traditional internal combustion engines to advanced electric setups.

Ford Territory and VinFast VF 7 Lead the Charge

Among individual vehicle performances, the Ford Territory posted the C-segment’s fastest monthly growth rate in September. Sales for the American-branded SUV climbed an impressive 110.7%, reaching 1,285 units. This stellar performance propelled the model into second place for the month, significantly narrowing the gap with segment front-runner Mazda CX-5.

Hot on its heels, the all-electric VinFast VF 7 delivered 1,092 units, representing a 57.1% increase from August. The VF 7 continues to benefit from competitive pricing structures, low running costs, and national incentives such as zero registration fees and free charging programs. Following closely behind, the Hyundai Tucson secured 1,004 deliveries, marking a solid 65.4% jump month-over-month.

Detailed September 2026 C-Segment SUV Performance Breakdown

Market dynamics shifted distinctively across various brands during September, reflecting aggressive dealership promotions, new variant launches, and evolving consumer tastes. While most of the segment enjoyed double-digit expansions, a few nameplates experienced stagnation or minor contractions.

  • Ford Territory: 1,285 units (up 110.7%)
  • VinFast VF 7: 1,092 units (up 57.1%)
  • Hyundai Tucson: 1,004 units (up 65.4%)
  • Mitsubishi Destinator: 861 units (up 27.7%)
  • Honda CR-V: 306 units (down 3.5%)
  • Kia Sportage: 302 units (slight decline, ranking last)

The newcomer Mitsubishi Destinator recorded 861 sales in September, translating to a 27.7% increase from August as it continues to carve out market share with its distinct 7-seat configuration layout. In contrast, the Honda CR-V stood out as the sole model in the segment to register a monthly decline, falling 3.5% to 306 units amid stiff pricing competition. The Kia Sportage rounded out the bottom of the table, trailing the CR-V by just four units.

Cumulative Nine-Month Outlook and Market Strategy

Looking at the broader picture for the first nine months of 2026, the Mazda CX-5 remains the undisputed leader in cumulative sales, anchored by its broad variant lineup, attractive entry-level pricing, and reliable brand equity. However, the rapid acceleration of the Ford Territory and the VinFast VF 7 indicates that the top tier of Vietnam’s C-SUV category is becoming increasingly contested.

“The market share of the C-segment SUV is fairly evenly distributed among competing models, avoiding the extreme monopolies seen in smaller car classes,” note industry analysts tracking the Vietnamese automotive sector.

As automakers roll out updated iterations, such as Ford’s Platinum trim additions, Hyundai’s hybrid introductions, and Honda’s locally assembled e:HEV hybrids, the final quarter of 2026 promises an even more aggressive race for consumer wallet share across showrooms nationwide.
