Netflix has officially confirmed that the hit British spy thriller Black Doves will return for its second season on November 5, 2026. The announcement was revealed during Netflix’s UK showcase at the Edinburgh TV Festival. It brings back lead stars Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw for six brand-new episodes filled with high-stakes espionage, dark comedy, and political chaos.

Created, written, and executive produced by Joe Barton, the series follows the dangerous double life of Helen Webb, played by Keira Knightley. Season 2 finds Helen passing state secrets to the covert organization known as the Black Doves. Her mission grows more treacherous as her husband, Wallace Webb, played by Andrew Buchan, prepares to become Prime Minister.

Helen’s handler, Mrs. Reed, played by Sarah Lancashire, faces a ruthless internal conspiracy designed to strip away her authority. To survive, Helen reunites with her best friend Sam, played by Ben Whishaw. Sam had been drinking alone in Soho bars and taking low-rate assassination gigs, but he is pulled back into the deadly crossfire of Helen’s world.

What to Expect from the Plot of Season 2

The first season premiered in December 2024 and drew approximately 59.4 million views during its first week alongside critical acclaim. Season 2 promises tighter tension. Netflix shared that the new episodes will test loyalties and challenge Helen and Sam as they sacrifice to protect the people they love.

Directors Julian Farino from Giri/Haji and Kieron Hawkes from Red Eye are directing episodes for the second season. Anne Mensah, Vice President of Content at Netflix UK, praised the creative team. She stated, “This is what happens when best-in-class writing meets best-in-class directing and extraordinary acting in a dark alley with guns and champagne.”

Expanded Cast and New Faces Joining the Spy Thriller

Returning favorites include Kathryn Hunter as Lenny Lines, Ella Lily Hyland as Williams, Gabrielle Creevy as Eleanor, and Agnes O’Casey as Dani. Season 2 also introduces several major new characters:

  • Ambika Mod as Laila, an acerbic and anarchic Black Doves agent assigned to help Helen.
  • Neve Campbell as Cecile Mason.
  • Babou Ceesay as Mr. Conteh, a sus**cious Black Doves executive.
  • Sam Riley as Patrick, a mysterious emissary offering Sam a dangerous lifeline.
  • Sylvia Hoeks as Katia Chernov.
  • Goran Kostic as Alexi Chernov.
  • Samuel Barnett as Jerry.

All six episodes drop simultaneously on November 5, allowing fans to stream the entire second season in one sitting as part of Netflix’s late-year lineup.
