Royal Family Wears Historic Tiaras at Oman State Banquet

Four prominent members of the British royal family displayed historic items from the royal jewelry collection on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, during a white-tie state banquet at Windsor Castle. The formal diplomatic occasion welcomed Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman on his state visit to the United Kingdom.

This landmark gathering marked the first state visit by a Sultan of Oman since March 1982, when Queen Elizabeth II welcomed Sultan Qaboos bin Said. King Charles III and Queen Camilla hosted the current Sultan, alongside senior royals, in a traditional display of pomp and pageantry that featured a military parade and a carriage procession through Windsor.

Queen Camilla Honors Late Monarchs with Iconic Headpiece

Queen Camilla wore a royal blue evening gown paired with the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. Created by royal jeweler Garrard in 1893 as a wedding gift for Princess Mary of Teck (later Queen Mary), the transformable diamond headpiece became one of the most recognizable pieces worn by Queen Elizabeth II.

In addition to the famous tiara, Queen Camilla accessorized with the historic Kent Amethyst Earrings-among the oldest jewels in the royal vault-alongside an amethyst necklace of unknown provenance. She also wore two of the Queen Mother’s Art Deco bracelets, Queen Victoria’s Diamond Bar Brooch to secure her sash, the Star of the Order of the Garter, and the Royal Family Order of King Charles III.

The Princess of Wales Selects the Lover’s Knot Tiara

The Princess of Wales attended the banquet in a butter-yellow Elie Saab gown paired with Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara. Created in 1914 by Garrard for Queen Mary and frequently worn by Princess Diana, the tiara remains a cornerstone of Catherine’s formal wardrobe for major state occasions and diplomatic receptions.

The Princess also wore the Greville Diamond Chandelier Earrings, an Art Deco diamond brooch, and Queen Mary’s diamond choker bracelet. Her decorations for the evening included the sash and star of the Royal Victorian Order and the Royal Family Order of King Charles III.

Princess Anne and the Duchess of Gloucester Complete the Royal Display

Other members of the royal family added to the evening’s historic jewelry display:

  • The Princess Royal (Princess Anne): Wore a golden gown accented with Princess Andrew’s Meander Tiara, a pearl and gold parure, and a large gold brooch used to secure her Order of the Garter sash. She also wore the Royal Family Orders of her mother and brother.
  • The Duchess of Gloucester: Selected a cream-colored evening gown featuring Queen Mary’s Honeysuckle Tiara with its central pink topaz, paired with a matching pink topaz necklace and diamond accessories. Her look was finished with the Order of the Garter and multiple royal family orders.

The state banquet concluded the primary royal engagements at Windsor Castle before the Sultan of Oman continued his itinerary in London with meetings involving government officials.
