Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson has opened up about her ongoing back issues as the team prepares to defend their WNBA championship title in the postseason. Wilson dealt with significant back problems late in the 2026 regular season, which landed her on the injury list twice in late August and ultimately led to her withdrawing from the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.
Speaking to reporters during a media availability on Saturday, the reigning four-time WNBA MVP addressed her physical health heading into the crucial first-round series against the Indiana Fever.
“[My back is] not the best at times, but you push through,” Wilson told reporters. “This is the time where I can’t really care about [what’s going on] as much as I want to. That’s why I try to dedicate as much off time off the court as I can to make sure that I’m good and that I’m medically cleared.”
Despite the lingering discomfort, Wilson emphasized that nearly every player taking the court in the postseason is playing through some form of physical ailment. She noted that she does not expect sympathy and remains fully focused on her responsibilities to her squad.
“I don’t think anyone right now is 100%, so I’m like, please don’t feel bad for me,” Wilson said. “I still got a job to do, and I’m gonna show up for my teammates every day.”
Wilson’s stellar regular-season statistics suggest she hasn’t missed a beat on the court. She finished the year averaging 26.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 2.0 blocks per game, boasting an efficient 52.7% shooting clip from the field.
The top priority for Wilson and the Aces is navigating a challenging best-of-three series against an Indiana Fever team led by standout guards Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell. While the physical toll of the season has required careful management off the court, Wilson’s determination remains unmatched as Las Vegas begins its pursuit of another WNBA title.
