NASCAR Cup Series Chase contenders Carson Hocevar and Bubba Wallace hit a major roadblock after getting swept up in a multi-car collision midway through Stage 2 of the Hollywood 400 at Kansas Speedway.
The dramatic incident unfolded on a restart following a Lap 35 caution, which had initially been triggered by an engine failure on Noah Gragson’s car. Restarting in the 11th position, Hocevar’s No. 77 Chevrolet darted right and made contact with Ty Gibbs’ No. 54 car. The contact sent Hocevar’s vehicle veering back toward the inside lane, where it inadvertently collected several other drivers.
The pileup involved multiple prominent competitors:
- Bubba Wallace
- Erik Jones
- Josh Berry
- Zane Smith
Despite sustaining notable vehicle damage from the multi-car melee, almost every affected driver managed to continue racing on the lead lap. The lone exception was Josh Berry, who fell a lap down as a result of the incident.
Before the crash, Hocevar was sitting eighth in the championship points standings, trailing leader Kyle Larson by 85 points. Although he managed to keep racing for the remainder of the 267-lap event, the heavy damage severely hindered his car’s performance, dealing a heavy blow to his current Chase campaign.
