HBO Premieres New Legal Drama Series War: Cast & Schedule

October 2, 2026 3 min read 0 comments

HBO premiered its new eight-episode legal drama series War on October 1 at 9 p.m. ET. It broadcasts simultaneously on the television network and the HBO Max streaming service. The series rolls out weekly episodes through mid-November, offering viewers a serialized look at high-stakes corporate and personal litigation.

Created by George Kay, known for his work on Lupin and Hijack, the series focuses on an explosive divorce that sparks a bitter feud between two elite London law firms. Ahead of its television debut, the project achieved an 83% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This prompted HBO and Sky to hand down a premature two-season initial order.

The Plot: A Billion-Dollar Divorce Sparks Legal Warfare

The storyline of Season 1 centers on high-profile tech mogul Morgan Henderson, played by Dominic West, and his film star wife Carla Duval, portrayed by Sienna Miller. When photographic evidence of infidelity is leaked directly to Carla, her legal representation moves quickly to file for divorce.

The separation triggers a cutthroat race between two rival London legal practices: Taylor & Byrne and Cathcarts & Sons. The logline for the series highlights the ruthless nature of the proceedings, stating: “Two rival London law firms take on the case of the century. In a world of love, scandal, betrayal, and ambition, winning is everything. This is WAR.”

Rather than relying solely on traditional courtroom scenes, the narrative explores boardroom maneuvers, public leaks, and personal compromises. These events occur behind closed doors as billions of dollars in assets and reputations hang in the balance.

Cast and Characters

War features an expansive international ensemble blending prominent British and American actors across its rival institutional settings:

  • Dominic West as Morgan Henderson, a billionaire technology founder.
  • Sienna Miller as Carla Duval, an internationally famous film star and Henderson’s estranged wife.
  • Phoebe Fox as Serena Byrne, a title partner at Taylor & Byrne.
  • James McArdle as Nicholas Taylor, a title partner at Taylor & Byrne who is also a partner to Byrne in life.
  • Nina Sosanya as Beatrice “Queen Bea” Ubosi, a formidable attorney leading the opposing firm Cathcarts & Sons.
  • Pip Torrens as St. John Smallwood, representing Cathcarts.
  • Archie Renaux as Johnny Warren, an ambitious young lawyer pulled into the case.

Release Schedule and Season 2 Outlook

The eight-episode first season follows a weekly airing schedule on Thursday nights at 9:00 PM ET on HBO and HBO Max, concluding its initial run on November 19. International distribution is handled by Sky across the U.K., Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, as well as by HBO Max in Australia.

Because HBO ordered two seasons ahead of the premiere, production on Season 2 is already underway. The upcoming second chapter will transition into an anthology-style format. It will shift its primary focus to a subsequent high-profile defamation suit that adds new cast members, including Marisa Tomei, Kelly Macdonald, and David Harewood, while maintaining the institutional rivalry between the competing firms.
