Video game developer Jagex has officially announced a fourth, currently unnamed RuneScape massively multiplayer online role-playing game built in Unreal Engine. Alongside this, the company revealed a brand-new animated series adaptation. These major franchise announcements were made during the opening keynote sessions of RuneFest 2026 in Birmingham, England, on October 3, 2026.
The sold-out two-day event drew over 6,000 fans to the NEC Arena. Attendees experienced a packed schedule featuring developer roadmap presentations, community awards, and major updates slated for the franchise’s existing titles.
Details of the New Unreal Engine RuneScape MMO
According to Jagex, the upcoming MMORPG is currently in the early stages of development. The game will be set in the region of Ashenfall during Gielinor’s Sixth Age. It will take place years after the events of RuneScape: Dragonwilds.
Studio executives addressed community questions regarding the franchise’s expanding lineup. They confirmed that the new title is designed to run alongside the existing catalog-including RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and Dragonwilds-rather than replace them. Jagex emphasized that each game within the ecosystem retains its own dedicated development team to ensure continuous support and regular content updates.
Expansion into Television with an Animated Series
In addition to the fourth MMO, Jagex surprised the community by revealing that a television-quality animated series set in the RuneScape universe is actively in production. While specific plot details and distribution platforms remain under wraps, the studio stated that the project aims to bring the rich lore and history of Gielinor to life for both longtime veterans and new audiences.
