Malaysia Road Transport Department Cracks Down on F1 Touts

The Malaysia Road Transport Department (JPJ) is actively tracking down individuals and unregistered groups operating illegal motorcycle ride-hailing services around the Sepang International Circuit (SIC). This enforcement sweep follows widespread online advertisements targeting spectators attending the high-profile Formula One racing event.

Unauthorized Ride-Hailing Operations Target F1 Spectators

Reports from Berita Harian indicate that unauthorized operators posted offers across multiple social media platforms to shuttle visitors between nearby transit points, designated parking areas, and circuit gates. Commuters turned to these informal motorcycle services to bypass heavy vehicular congestion surrounding the circuit grounds during race weekend.

Promotional listings discovered on platforms like Threads revealed riders charging RM10 each way for trips between Mitsui Outlet Park Sepang and the circuit. Additionally, unauthorized operators offered identical flat-rate rides originating from Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 to the race venue.

Safety Concerns and Regulatory Warnings

While these underground services offered a quick alternative to heavy traffic gridlock, transport authorities have flagged them for severe safety violations. Unregistered operators lack commercial public service vehicle (PSV) licenses, and passengers frequently ride without proper insurance coverage or verified safety gear.

Transport officials remind the public that utilizing unverified transport services poses significant legal and physical risks, particularly during accidents. JPJ enforcement units remain deployed across strategic transit hubs and roadways around Sepang to intercept illegal operators and safeguard commuters.
