US Coast Guard Finds Debris From Missing Medical Flight Near Nantucket

U.S. Coast Guard crews discovered a debris field on Saturday evening off the coast of Nantucket, Massachusetts. The debris belongs to a missing medical transport plane that vanished over the Atlantic Ocean. The Gulfstream G-100 air ambulance was carrying six individuals-including four Canadians and two Bermudans-during a flight from Bermuda to Boston when it went off radar.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) notified the Coast Guard after air traffic controllers lost contact with the flight early Saturday morning. According to the Bermuda Skyport Corporation, which operates LF Wade International Airport, the Canadian-registered aircraft departed from Bermuda at approximately 12:41 a.m.

Emergency Declared Before Radar Disappearance

Before vanishing from tracking systems, the air ambulance experienced severe operational difficulties. Audio recordings obtained from air traffic communications show that the flight crew contacted New York controllers to declare an emergency amid reported electrical failures.

Air traffic audio revealed that the controller struggled to hear the pilots clearly and repeatedly requested confirmation of their altitude. When the aircraft stopped answering entirely, the controller enlisted a nearby Ethiopian Airlines flight to attempt radio contact. However, no response was received.

FlightAware tracking data and investigative sources indicate the jet suffered a rapid descent. It dropped roughly 7,500 feet within three minutes before disappearing from radar screens around 2:00 a.m. local time.

Intensive Search and Rescue Operations

Throughout Saturday, multiple Coast Guard air and sea assets swept the Atlantic waters surrounding Nantucket to locate the missing aircraft and its occupants. All six individuals aboard remain unaccounted for as rescue efforts press forward.

The Coast Guard confirmed that the cutter William Sparling was deployed to maintain search operations through the night. Maritime and aerial teams continue to comb the confirmed debris field as authorities work to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the crash.

Officials have scheduled a press conference to provide further updates regarding the ongoing search and recovery mission.
