US Regulators Announce Recalls for Consumer Products

October 5, 2026 2 min read 0 comments

Federal regulatory agencies issued safety recalls for multiple consumer goods sold across California throughout September 2026. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cited potential risks, including choking, fire hazards, and bacterial contamination.

The recalled items include baby toys, portable sleep machines, commercial hand soaps, and pet dietary supplements. These products were distributed through nationwide retail outlets, including Target, Walmart, Nordstrom, and online marketplaces like Amazon.

Major Toy and Baby Product Recalls

Skip Hop voluntarily recalled approximately 22,000 units of its Baby Sesame Street Elmo Silicone Teether on Sept. 3. The company discovered that the toy’s black eyes can detach when frozen, presenting a significant choking hazard for infants.

On the same day, Melissa & Doug issued a recall for its Lights & Sounds Fire Truck Activity Board. A detachable fire hose port on the board poses a similar choking risk to small children. Parents and caregivers who purchased these items should immediately take them away from children and contact the manufacturers for refunds or replacements.

Additional Household and Pet Product Safety Hazards

Federal regulators also flagged several other everyday items for serious safety compliance failures:

  • Portable Sleep Machines: Electrical short-circuit risks prompted recalls on select travel sound machines sold mostly online.
  • Commercial Hand Soaps: Tested batches revealed bacterial contamination concerns, leading to institutional and retail withdrawals.
  • Pet Dietary Supplements: Certain dog and cat nutritional additives faced voluntary recalls over mold and microbiological concerns.

Consumer Advice and Next Steps

Consumers who purchased any affected products should check the official CPSC and FDA websites for specific lot numbers, UPC codes, and return instructions. Retailers nationwide must pull remaining inventory from shelves and online storefronts immediately.
