Chicago PD Returns For Season 14 On NBC: Release Date & Cast

October 6, 2026 4 min read 0 comments

NBC’s hit police drama Chicago P.D. officially returns for its 14th season on Wednesday, October 7, at 10/9c. It brings back the gritty action of the network’s popular “One Chicago” Wednesday programming block. Airing immediately following Chicago Med Season 12 at 8/7c and Chicago Fire Season 15 at 9/8c, the procedural picks up right where the narrative left off. It promises major cast shifts, character transformations, and high-stakes moral dilemmas for Sergeant Hank Voight and the Intelligence Unit.

Fans looking to catch up on previous investigations can stream all 13 prior seasons of Chicago P.D. on Peacock. New episodes of Season 14 will also become available to stream on Peacock the day after they broadcast live on NBC.

What to Expect from the Season 14 Premiere

The Season 14 premiere, titled “Demolition,” jumps forward three months after the events of the Season 13 finale. Viewers will watch Intelligence leader Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) handle the heavy fallout of a complex murder investigation. Meanwhile, the rest of the unit investigates the shooting of a local parole officer.

Showrunner Gwen Sigan, who has helmed the series since Season 9, explains that the writing room took deliberate steps to explore the foundational backgrounds of each character. These personal deep-dives have naturally led the team to pivotal crossroads, setting the stage for a unique and evolving batch of episodes.

“We wanted to focus on sort of why each of them is the way they are, where does that come from, and it was really a fun season to explore,” Sigan shared with NBC Insider. “It wound up really naturally putting them each at this point where they have these big momentous life things happening to each of them. And so it sets us up to really change with the characters.”

Cast Changes and Departures in Season 14

The upcoming season brings notable adjustments to the ensemble cast. Most prominently, LaRoyce Hawkins, who has portrayed Kevin Atwater since the show’s pilot episode, is set to depart the series. Hawkins is slated to appear in two or three episodes at the start of Season 14 to provide a conclusion to Atwater’s storyline. This may tie into his character’s upcoming fatherhood alongside his girlfriend Tasha Fox (Karen Obilom).

While no permanent replacement has been officially confirmed yet, industry reports indicate that casting calls went out for a new series regular. This character is described as a Black cop who acts as “an agent of chaos,” offering a sharp contrast to Atwater’s steadfast demeanor.

The core Intelligence Unit roster remains populated by familiar faces:

  • Jason Beghe as Sergeant Hank Voight
  • Marina Squerciati as Detective Kim Burgess
  • Patrick John Flueger as Officer Adam Ruzek
  • Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Officer Dante Torres
  • Arienne Mandi as Officer Eva Imani
  • Amy Morton as Sergeant Trudy Platt

Unresolved Storylines: Voight, Imani, and Shari

Season 14 will also address the moral cliffhanger involving Hank Voight and Officer Eva Imani. The conclusion of Season 13 followed Imani’s search for her missing sister, Shari, who had fallen under the control of trafficker Russ Kirby. After Voight killed Kirby to save Imani, a final twist revealed that a murdered worker tied to the case was actually killed by Shari herself.

As the new season begins, the narrative will test the bond between Voight and Imani. Viewers will soon discover whether Voight chooses to protect Imani’s sister by manipulating the system or whether the truth will catch up with them.

Domestic Shifts for Burgess and Ruzek

Beyond the precinct walls, personal lives will experience significant shifts. Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek spent the previous season navigating the decision to move out of the neighborhood where Adam grew up in Canaryville. They sought a new home in the suburbs for their daughter, Makayla. Season 14 is expected to explore the domestic adjustments and friction brought on by this major family transition.

Fans can tune in to the Season 14 premiere of Chicago P.D. on Wednesday, October 7, at 10 p.m. ET on NBC, with next-day streaming available on Peacock.
