An unusual piece of trail camera footage has captured a mature buck walking through the wild with an extra set of antlers dangling from its own head. Shared online by WiseEye, the video highlights a bizarre entanglement involving wildlife, fencing material, and the aftermath of territorial battles.
The viral footage, published publicly on October 8, 2026, shows the sizable deer moving normally despite the heavy obstruction. Closer inspection of the video reveals not only a second set of antlers hanging loosely from the rack, but also wire wrapped tightly around the buck’s main antlers.
How Deer Become Entangled in Antlers and Wire
Wildlife experts note that white-tailed bucks grow and shed their antlers every year. They use these antlers heavily during the autumn rut to establish dominance, mark territory, and fight rival males. During intense sparring matches, bucks occasionally lock horns so severely that separation becomes difficult.
In this particular case, observers and hunters believe the buck and a rival engaged in a fierce scuffle near a property line or fence. The animals appear to have become tangled in loose barbed wire during the fight. One deer presumably broke free by leaving a portion of its rack behind. The buck captured on the trail camera escaped while still tethered to the wire and the leftover skull fragment or antlers.
Reactions from Hunters and Wildlife Enthusiasts
The video quickly drew widespread attention across social media platforms. It left outdoor enthusiasts both fascinated and perplexed by the unique sight. Commenters offered various lighthearted and analytical theories regarding the buck’s makeshift trophy display:
- “Looks like the winner to me.”
- “Someone’s dropped rattling antlers maybe? Big boy wanted to play with them?”
- “Dude is carrying pieces of his last battle victim.”
- “Wearing it like a trophy.”
Wildlife officials occasionally intervene when animals are critically trapped or injured by human-made debris. However, wild creatures generally have to adapt to whatever obstacles they encounter in their natural habitats. For now, this particular buck continues to roam freely, showcasing a rare and unforgettable look at the unpredictable nature of the wild.
