Travis Barker Undergoes Surgery to Relieve Pinched Nerve

Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker recently underwent surgery to address a persistent pinched nerve. He experienced significant numbness in his arm, hand, and fingers following a performance last month. The 50-year-old musician shared the health update with his followers on Instagram Stories, explaining the medical reasoning behind the procedure and his expected recovery timeline.

Details of Travis Barker’s Elbow Surgery

Barker first sparked concern among fans when he posted a photograph of himself on a gurney inside a hospital room. He later offered additional context, revealing that he went to the operating room on October 6. According to the musician, his arm, hand, and fingers had been numb since a live show played the previous month.

After undergoing a nerve test, medical professionals determined that Barker required a cubital tunnel release procedure to alleviate pressure on the ulnar nerve near his elbow. Cubital tunnel syndrome typically causes numbness or tingling in the small and ring fingers, alongside general hand weakness, which can severely impact a percussionist’s performance capabilities.

“I had surgery yesterday,” Barker wrote on his Instagram Story, reclining in his hospital bed alongside his wife, Kourtney Kardashian. “My arm, hand and fingers have been numb since a show I played last month. I did a nerve test Monday after my show and turns out I needed a cubital tunnel release to fix the nerve.”

Proactive Approach to Long-Term Drumming

Known for his high-energy drumming style, Barker emphasized that he chose to undergo the procedure immediately. This decision helps prevent long-term damage and maintains his rigorous performance standards.

“I wanted to get ahead of it and get it over with so that I can keep playing the way I play for a long long time,” Barker explained. He added an optimistic recovery outlook for fans: “Should be good in a few weeks.”

Maintaining his characteristic humor, Barker also poked fun at a photo of his wife smiling by his hospital bed, writing, “Not sure why my wife looks so happy about this.” Kardashian supported her husband throughout his stay. Barker’s 20-year-old daughter, Alabama Barker, also visited him in the hospital.

History of Hand and Arm Injuries

This medical procedure marks the latest physical hurdle for the Blink-182 co-founder. Barker has faced several severe hand and arm injuries throughout his career:

  • February 2023: Barker dislocated his ring finger and tore ligaments during band rehearsals. This forced Blink-182 to postpone tour dates before he underwent corrective surgery.
  • 2018: The drummer developed dangerous blood clots in both arms, accompanied by a staph infection and cellulitis. This required the cancellation of multiple scheduled performances.

Upcoming Tour Schedule and Recovery

Fortunately, Barker’s surgery occurs while Blink-182 is on a scheduled break from the road. The band plans to return to live performances next year, with a series of European festival appearances booked for June. The upcoming itinerary includes major shows at Rock For People in Czechia, Rock im Park, Rock am Ring, and Waldbühne in Germany, I-Days IPPODROMO SNAI SAN SIRO in Italy, and a final stop at Plentitude Arena in Paris on June 15.

With a few weeks of rest and proper rehabilitation, Barker is expected to make a full recovery and resume drumming without lingering nerve restrictions.
