GDOT Reopens All I-95 Lanes After Three-Vehicle Crash

October 9, 2026 2 min read 0 comments

All lanes on Interstate 95 in Chatham County, Georgia, have officially reopened following a multi-vehicle collision that created major traffic disruptions on October 9, 2026. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) confirmed that normal traffic flow was restored after emergency response teams cleared the scene.

The incident involved a three-vehicle crash near Mile Marker 111. The collision forced the complete closure of all southbound lanes and blocked an additional northbound lane on the busy interstate corridor. Because of the heavy congestion, transportation officials quickly implemented detours to manage the backup.

Traffic Diversions and Emergency Response

To keep transit moving around the accident site, local authorities directed motorists through the nearby Chatham County Welcome Center. GDOT urged drivers to seek alternate routes while police, fire, and highway crews worked to process the accident scene, tow the wrecked vehicles, and inspect the roadway for any debris or hazards.

  • Location: Interstate 95 near Mile Marker 111, Chatham County, Georgia
  • Date of Incident: October 9, 2026
  • Vehicles Involved: Three vehicles
  • Impact: Complete closure of southbound lanes and obstruction of one northbound lane

Updated Clearance Times and Recovery

GDOT provided regular updates regarding the expected reopening schedule via its official traveller information alerts. Initial estimates suggested that the southbound section would be clear by 8:00 a.m. on October 9. Later updates revised the estimated clearance time to 10:00 a.m. for the southbound lanes, while a separate advisory estimated that the blocked northbound lane would reopen around 8:32 a.m.

With all lanes now cleared and open to the public, residual delays are expected to dissipate as regular commercial and commuter traffic resumes normal speeds through Chatham County.
