Investigation and Scene Details
Officers quickly surrounded the property. Chief Lorah stated that no further shots were fired after police arrived, leading up to when the Erie Bureau of Police SWAT Team cleared the residence.
Inside and around the home, investigators discovered additional victims. The suspected shooter matched the description provided by a neighbor who witnessed the initial attack. The suspect was found deceased inside the home with a firearm, appearing to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Although the final death toll was not immediately released on October 9, Chief Lorah called the event a catastrophic loss of life and the most horrific incident of his career.
The City of Erie issued a statement shortly after 10 p.m. on October 9 confirming the situation was contained. Authorities emphasized that the suspected shooter was dead and that there was no ongoing threat to the general public.
“Our thoughts are with the victims, their loved ones, and everyone impacted by tonight’s tragedy,” the City of Erie stated.
