Actor Jeremy Renner has officially confirmed that he will not reprise his iconic role as Clint Barton, better known as Hawkeye, in the upcoming Marvel Studios blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday. The star addressed ongoing fan speculation during a recent Q&A session and a radio appearance, stating clearly that Marvel did not reach out to him to join the massive ensemble cast.
When asked directly if he would return for the fifth installment of the Avengers franchise, Renner offered a blunt response. “No, no, no, no. Not in that one,” Renner said. Joking about the team’s prospects without his character, he added, “Doomsday, I’m not in, so The Avengers will probably lose, just so you know… they didn’t call me, so it’s their fault they’re going to lose.”
Why Hawkeye Is Absent from Avengers: Doomsday
Fans have spent months dissecting the lineup for Avengers: Doomsday, especially after Marvel Studios revealed a massive ensemble cast featuring returning heroes, fresh faces, and characters from the Fox X-Men era. While early theories suggested Clint Barton could make an appearance or serve a supporting role, Renner’s schedule and the studio’s casting choices point elsewhere.
Renner noted that he remains occupied with other professional commitments, including his starring role in the hit crime-thriller television series Mayor of Kingstown. “I’m very busy,” the actor explained when discussing his availability. Additionally, Marvel has already established a successor to the archer mantle within the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Kate Bishop, played by Hailee Steinfeld, who was introduced in the 2021 Disney+ series Hawkeye.
Could a Multiverse Return Still Happen?
Despite Renner’s definitive comments regarding Avengers: Doomsday, fans continue to debate whether the door is completely shut for the broader Multiverse Saga finale, Avengers: Secret Wars. Social media speculation briefly spiked after Renner shared an Instagram story featuring a close-up of his Hawkeye suit labeled under “END GAME PRESS” highlights during additional photography phases.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously confirmed that additional casting announcements would roll out closer to production. With directors Anthony and Joe Russo returning to helm both Avengers: Doomsday-scheduled for theatrical release on December 18, 2026-and Avengers: Secret Wars, observers note that Marvel actors frequently operate under strict non-disclosure agreements that require them to deny involvement.
For now, however, Renner maintains he is not part of the roster. Whether Clint Barton sits out the remainder of Phase 6 or surprises audiences with an unannounced cameo remains one of the many lingering questions as the Multiverse Saga approaches its climax.
