NBC officially launched The Voice Season 30 Battle Rounds on Monday, October 12, kicking off a high-stakes phase of the competition following six weeks of Blind Auditions. Coaches Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, Queen Latifah, and Riley Green guided their 12-artist teams through head-to-head duet performances during the two-hour Battles premiere.
Season 30 introduces significant rule updates designed to shake up the dynamics of the long-running reality singing competition. Alongside the new Battles and advisor-led rehearsals, NBC has rolled out format twists that impact every stage of the journey toward the Live Shows.
New Format Twists: From Blind Auditions to Cut Week
Before reaching the Battle Rounds, coaches encountered a fresh twist during the Blind Auditions called the “First In Button.” Rather than utilizing traditional blocks or steals during the initial round, coaches who turned their chairs first received the option to automatically claim an artist once per season during multi-chair turns, overriding the artist’s usual choice of team.
As the competition progresses past the Battles, Season 30 replaces the traditional Knockout Round with an entirely new phase: Cut Week. NBC describes this as the “biggest elimination in Voice history.” Cut Week will dramatically narrow down the remaining contestants:
- Each coach selects two artists to send straight to the Live Shows.
- Five additional team members compete for one remaining spot on that coach’s team.
- Each coach heads into the Live Shows with three artists, establishing a Top 12.
- Viewers can vote one additional eliminated artist back into the competition, bringing a total of 13 contestants into the Live Shows.
Live Shows, Simulcast Viewing, and New Voting Methods
For the first time in the show’s history, The Voice Live Shows will be simulcast across both NBC and Peac**k simultaneously in all time zones. Spanning six weeks, the live broadcasts feature themed weeks inspired by Y2K trends, TikTok, and a special Dolly Parton tribute.
Fans also have expanded ways to participate. In addition to traditional platforms, viewers can cast votes throughout the Live Shows and up until the Finale using SMS text messaging or by leaving comments on the official The Voice TikTok account. Additionally, the Season 30 champion secures a major prize: a performance slot on the main stage at the 2027 Governors Ball Music Festival.
Early Battle Highlights
The Battle Rounds opened with intense pairings and expert guidance from guest Battle Advisors. In one of the premiere night’s standout performances, Nashville baker Brandy Neelly faced off against sisters Ferryn and Brinkley on Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart,” with coaching from Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Carly Pearce. Coach Riley Green ultimately selected Ferryn and Brinkley to advance toward Cut Week.
New episodes of The Voice Season 30 air Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and stream the following day on Peac**k.
