A concert documentary chronicling Ozzy Osbourne’s final live performance and the historic reunion of Black Sabbath’s original lineup is scheduled to arrive in participating cinemas worldwide on October 28, 2026. Titled Ozzy & Black Sabbath: Back to the Beginning, the 100-minute film preserves a landmark event held at Villa Park stadium in Birmingham, England, on July 5, 2025.

The cinematic release, distributed globally by Trafalgar Releasing and produced by Mercury Studios, will screen in approximately 1,500 cinemas across 35 countries. Tickets are set to go on sale on September 24 at 7:00 AM PT / 10:00 AM ET / 3:00 PM BST / 4:00 CEST via the official event website.

Inside the ‘Back to the Beginning’ Concert Film

The documentary captures a milestone moment in heavy metal history: Ozzy Osbourne’s final farewell performance in his hometown. The sold-out July 2025 concert brought Osbourne together with founding Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass), and Bill Ward (drums) for the first time in roughly two decades. The evening featured a solo set from Osbourne alongside the historic band reunion.

Ben Wainwright-Pearce directed the screen version. His previous work includes Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour and George Michael: The Faith Tour. Tim van Someren handled live concert direction. The filmmakers engineered the movie in Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound to capture both the stadium scale and personal intimacy of the event.

A Massive Gathering of Rock Royalty

Actor Jason Momoa hosted the original charity concert, and Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello served as musical director. A wide roster of major rock and metal acts influenced by the pioneering band performed at the event, including:

  • Metallica
  • Guns N’ Roses
  • Tool
  • Slayer
  • Pantera
  • Alice in Chains
  • Anthrax
  • Gojira
  • Halestorm
  • Lamb of God
  • Mastodon
  • Rival Sons

Additional guest musicians participated in all-star performance segments throughout the night, including Billy Corgan, Chad Smith, Steven Tyler, Sammy Hagar, Travis Barker, and members of Ghost and Slipknot.

Why the Historic Farewell Happened

Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy’s wife and manager who oversaw the production, explained that the event came from a simple desire to give the legendary singer peace. “Back to the Beginning came about because I asked Ozzy what would really make him happy,” she stated. “And he said the only thing that would make him happy was if he could perform again and say goodbye to his fans. That’s all he wanted to do. He wanted to say goodbye and thank you.”

Members of Black Sabbath reflected on the emotional weight of the evening. Guitarist Tony Iommi described the event as “closure for the band and it was a good way to go out.” Bassist Geezer Butler noted, “To me it was like pure love. It was just a wave of love.” Drummer Bill Ward added that he felt “completely at home in a place where I belong.”

Mercury Studios co-leads Ken Danquah and Andrea Dunn emphasized the importance of bringing the footage to the big screen. “Ozzy Osbourne is one of the most influential figures in music history, and his final performance with Black Sabbath deserves to be seen on the biggest possible stage,” they said in a joint statement.
