Henderson Fire Threatens Structures at Camp Pendleton

October 16, 2026 2 min read 0 comments

A fast-moving wildfire, known as the Henderson Fire, erupted at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Diego County, California. It expanded rapidly to an estimated 400 to 500 acres. Driven by strong winds, the blaze threatened vital military base infrastructure. This prompted immediate evacuation orders as ground crews and aerial units worked aggressively to contain the flames.

The incident was first reported near the intersection of Henderson Street and Brown Street, close to the installation’s 43 Area and near the corridor connecting Basilone Road and Las Pulgas Road. Initially estimated at just a few acres of grass and brush, the fire escalated significantly under the influence of 10 to 15 mph winds. It jumped dozer lines at its head and right flank and exhibited medium-range spotting.

Camp Pendleton Fire Department Response and Evacuations

The Camp Pendleton Fire Department responded immediately to the scene alongside mutual-aid resources. Incident command requested substantial support to battle the blaze as it threatened structures along the southern side and near the heel of the fire. This support included multiple fire engines, bulldozers, and up to six air tankers.

Base officials issued mandatory evacuation orders due to the direct threat to base infrastructure. Additionally, a power outage was reported in the Las Pulgas area. Authorities did not immediately specify the exact number of affected customers or the expected duration of the outage.

Road Closures and Emergency Access

To facilitate emergency operations and protect the public, base authorities implemented several critical road closures across the installation:

  • Las Pulgas Road was closed from the intersection with Stuart Mesa Road to the intersection with Brown Street.
  • Stuart Mesa Road was closed in both directions toward Fire Base Gloria.
  • The Las Pulgas Gate was restricted entirely to emergency vehicles until further notice.

No injuries or specific causes for the Henderson Fire have been reported at this time. Residents and base personnel have been advised to monitor official updates through AlertSanDiego, Genasys Protect, and Camp Pendleton’s official communications channels for ongoing containment progress and evacuation instructions.
