NBC is bringing the traditional multi-camera sitcom format back to its primetime lineup with Newlyweds, a comedy series starring real-life married couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly. The show centers on two individuals who marry shortly after meeting, blending art with reality following the actors’ actual 2025 wedding.

The series is scheduled to premiere on Friday, October 23, at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC, airing immediately following the Season 3 premiere of Happy’s Place. New episodes will also be available to stream the following day on Peac**k. According to network announcements, the first season consists of 13 episodes, with live studio tapings taking place at Universal City, California.

The Premise and Creative Team

Created by veteran television writer Gail Lerner, Newlyweds follows a later-in-life love story between Jeanie, a free-spirited mother, and James, a buttoned-up philosophy professor. The official logline highlights their impetuous marriage following a whirlwind courtship, setting up humorous conflicts as they navigate blending their established lives and family responsibilities.

Jamie Lee Curtis serves as co-creator and executive producer alongside Eric and Kim Tannenbaum, Scott Schwartz, and Lionsgate Television. Pam Fryman directed and executive-produced the pilot episode. The series is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Curtis also takes on a recurring guest-star role as Claudia, James’s glamorous ex-wife.

Meet the Cast of Newlyweds

The sitcom features an ensemble cast blending veteran actors and rising comedy talent:

  • Téa Leoni as Jeanie: A free-spirited mother of two whose film credits include Bad Boys, Deep Impact, and The Family Man, alongside her television tenure in Madam Secretary.
  • Tim Daly as James: A reserved philosophy professor. Daly makes an NBC sitcom homecoming with this role, having famously starred as Joe Hackett on Wings for eight seasons from 1990 to 1997, as well as starring alongside Leoni in Madam Secretary.
  • Jamie Lee Curtis as Claudia: The Oscar-winning actress plays James’s ex-wife, bringing her extensive comedy background from Anything But Love back to the multi-camera format.
  • Emma Meisel as Poppy: Portrays Jeanie’s daughter. Meisel’s previous credits include American Horror Story: 1984 and the film Please Don’t Feed the Children.
  • Ignacio Diaz-Silverio as Lolo: Plays Jeanie’s adopted son. Diaz-Silverio won an Imagen Award for his work in Primo and has appeared in Zero Day.
  • Bill O’Neill as Arvid: Takes on the role of James’s quirky assistant in the philosophy department at the University of Oslo.
  • Al Madrigal as Dan: Recurs as James’s divorced best friend, bringing his background from The Daily Show and St. Denis Medical to the show.

Real-Life Romance Inspires On-Screen Comedy

The on-screen marriage parallels the real-life relationship of Leoni and Daly, who first met in 2014 on the set of CBS political drama Madam Secretary. After a decade-long partnership, the couple officially tied the knot in a small, family-only ceremony in July 2025.

“We were kind of sniffing around to play together again,” Leoni shared during an NBCUniversal promotional event. “We had a lot of fun on Madam Secretary. The world got darker, and we wanted to get lighter. We thought we’ve done this particular medium, and loved it, and we wanted to spend our days together.”

Daly echoed those sentiments, noting the unique dynamic of working together professionally as an actual married couple. With its multi-camera setup, live audience tapings, and nostalgic sitcom pacing, Newlyweds anchors a major piece of NBC’s comedy strategy for the 2026-2027 television season.
