Award-winning actress Nia Long has officially joined the cast of Get Lite, an upcoming Paramount dance drama. This film marks the feature-length directorial debut of artist and performer Teyana Taylor. Production is currently underway in New York City, and studio executives have scheduled a wide theatrical release for August 20, 2027.

Long joins an ensemble cast that already features Emmy-winning actress Storm Reid, actor and former football player Ceyair Wright, Leslie Odom Jr., and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor. While studio announcements confirmed Long’s addition to the project, specific details regarding her character remain under wraps.

Plot Details and Production Team Behind Get Lite

The story follows Ceyair Wright as a gifted yet sheltered dance student navigating the high-energy, competitive environment of New York City’s subway dance culture. Through the subterranean transit scene, he uncovers unexpected inspiration, romance, and a profound sense of family. Storm Reid stars opposite Wright as a young woman who introduces him to these transformative new life experiences.

Teyana Taylor directs the film from a screenplay by Maurice Williams. The narrative is adapted from an original spec script by Eric Gross that secured a spot on the prestigious Black List in 2020.

A powerhouse team of creators is handling production. Storm Reid is producing alongside Kenya Barris and Anni Weisband for Khalabo Ink Society, Robyn Simpson for A Seed & Wings Productions, and Bill Karesh for Offbrnd. Additionally, Teyana Taylor and Courtney “Coco” Gilbert are producing through their banner, The Aunties.

Reunions and Co-Star Connections

The production of Get Lite fosters several notable reunions within the cast and crew. Nia Long and Storm Reid are teaming up once again after previously starring together in the critically praised 2023 thriller Missing.

Long’s involvement also continues a strong collaborative streak with producer Kenya Barris, following her roles in his 2023 Netflix comedy You People and the 2020 series #BlackAF.

The expansive supporting cast for Get Lite also features:

  • Jodie Turner-Smith
  • Asante Blackk
  • Woody McClain
  • Tylil James
  • Khayr Bullock

A Monumental Career Chapter for Nia Long

Long’s entry into the cast comes during a momentous stretch for the four-time NAACP Image Award winner. In September 2026, the veteran actress was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, cementing her enduring legacy in film and television.

Long recently delivered a powerful performance as Katherine Jackson in the biographical drama Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua. Beyond Get Lite, her upcoming slate includes executive producing and starring in the Netflix film Don’t Ever Wonder alongside her former Love Jones co-star Larenz Tate. She is also slated to appear with Ice Cube in the ongoing comedy franchise and is expected to reprise her classic role in upcoming franchise extensions.

With filming actively progressing on the streets and subways of New York City, Get Lite continues to build anticipation as one of Paramount’s marquee theatrical releases heading toward its August 2027 premiere date.
