A shooting near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, injured 12 people shortly before 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 24. The incident followed a physical altercation in a crowded area during the university’s homecoming weekend, according to the Tallahassee Police Department.

Authorities reported that 11 individuals suffered gunshot wounds, while a twelfth person sustained injuries while fleeing the scene. As of early Sunday morning, no arrests had been made, and law enforcement agencies continued their active investigation.

Details of the Victims and Injuries

Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell stated that the victims include six adults and six juveniles. The youngest victim is 11 years old. Authorities also confirmed that at least one of the victims is believed to be a Florida A&M student.

Medical assessments following the incident revealed varying degrees of injury:

  • Three victims sustained serious injuries.
  • One victim was listed in critical condition.
  • Eight victims were initially reported to be in stable condition.

Investigation Into the Altercation

Preliminary findings from the Tallahassee Police Department indicate that a physical altercation preceded the gunfire. The shooting occurred on Perry Street, an intersection adjacent to Bragg Memorial Stadium, as crowds gathered following the homecoming football game.

Investigators are working to determine whether the shooting had any direct connection to the football game, which saw Arkansas-Pine Bluff defeat Florida A&M with a score of 31-28 earlier in the evening.

University and Community Response

Following the violence, Florida A&M University used the social media platform X to issue safety advisories. The university urged students and community members to stay away from the area while assuring the public that the main campus remained secure.

Neighboring Florida State University, located about a mile away, issued a precautionary emergency alert. It advised students, faculty, and staff to remain indoors and stay alert. Police have urged any witnesses with information regarding the shooting to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
