Amazon has officially refreshed its popular Kindle e-reader lineup. The update introduces sleeker unibody designs, flush-front displays, and a fresh array of accessories, including official physical page-turn options. The updated hardware spans the entry-level base Kindle, the mid-tier Kindle Paperwhite, and the color-enabled Kindle Colorsoft models.
The All-New Base Kindle
The entry-level six-inch Kindle has been redesigned to be one millimeter thinner at 6.8mm and lighter at 140 grams. It drops the raised bezel of previous generations in favor of a modern, continuous flush-front display. The power button has also been relocated to the top right side to align with the rest of the updated family.
Amazon offers the standard plastic model for $149.99 in Graphite and a vibrant new purple shade called Ube. Amazon also offers a more premium aluminum body variant. Priced at $189.99, the aluminum model doubles the built-in storage from 16GB to 32GB and comes in Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green.
Kindle Paperwhite Slims Down
The seven-inch Kindle Paperwhite retains its core feature set. This includes an adjustable warm light, a high contrast ratio, a waterproof build, and extended battery life. It now benefits from a slimmer molded plastic chassis and a reduced weight of 204g. The standard plastic model offers 16GB of storage in Graphite for $199.99.
For power users, the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition swaps the plastic shell for aluminum and doubles storage to 32GB. It adds an auto-adjusting front light and incorporates rear pogo pins for dock charging. It launches on October 28 for $249.99 in Graphite and Seaglass Green.
Kindle Colorsoft and Signature Editions
The Kindle Colorsoft brings paper-like color to the refreshed design architecture. It features the same unibody flush screen and repositioned power button. The standard Colorsoft is available in Graphite for $289.99.
The Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition adds an aluminum body, 32GB of storage, auto-adjusting front lights, pogo pins for docked charging, and a double-tap page-turn feature. It is priced at $319.99 and offered in Graphite and Fig, a deep burgundy shade.
New Kindle Accessories: Clickers and Covers
Several new add-on peripherals accompany the hardware updates to enhance the reading experience:
- Kindle Click ($34.99): A compact Bluetooth remote featuring large page-turn buttons and side buttons to adjust screen brightness. It is compatible with all new Kindle devices and any model released from 2024 onward.
- Page-Turn Cover ($79.99): A magnetic folio case featuring integrated physical page-turn buttons. It connects via the pogo pins on the back of the device and is available exclusively for the Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition.
- Charging Dock ($59.99): A dedicated stand that keeps Signature Edition e-readers upright and powered on while not in use.
- Kindle Covers (Starting at $39.99): Wrapped fully around the device for a seamless finish, these are available in knit fabric, plant-based leather, and pebbled premium leather.
The refreshed basic Kindle and standard Kindle Colorsoft models are available immediately. The Paperwhite and Signature variants roll out throughout October.
