AMC has officially greenlit a six-episode series order for a new multi-camera family sitcom titled Happy Jack. The show stars real-life father and son duo Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen. Production on the half-hour comedy is scheduled to begin at Warner Bros. Studios in early 2027. It will premiere on AMC and AMC+ later that same year.
The Premise and Creative Team Behind Happy Jack
In Happy Jack, Charlie Sheen plays Jack Chambers. Jack is a lifelong ne’er-do-well and self-centered father. He has two adult daughters: Kate, who runs his company and keeps him on track, and Sam, a wild child who shares his rebellious traits. Their family dynamics face a sudden test when Sam returns home. She introduces her new boyfriend, Paul, a former investment banker turned van-life guru who happens to be the exact same age as Jack.
This unexpected generational conflict forces Jack to choose between his old habits and stepping up as a genuine father to his daughters. Meanwhile, the daughters were largely raised by Jack’s own father. Veteran actor Martin Sheen plays this grandfather role, bringing a real-life parental dynamic to the screen alongside his son.
The project reunites Charlie Sheen with key creative talent from his hit CBS sitcom Two and a Half Men. Jim Patterson and Matt Ross serve as co-showrunners, writers, and executive producers. Additional executive producers include Charlie Sheen, Todd Christopher, Jason Wang, and former Two and a Half Men executive producers Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum of The Tannenbaum Company. 20th Television and AMC Studios are producing the show.
A Major Milestone for AMC and the Sheen Family
The series marks a notable strategic shift for AMC. The network is historically known for prestige dramas like Breaking Bad and Mad Men. Now, it is venturing further into the traditional half-hour multi-camera comedy format filmed in front of a live studio audience.
Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Global Media and president of AMC Studios, expressed enthusiasm about the new project:
What a thrill to welcome Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen to AMC and AMC+, playing a father and son in this original family comedy, Happy Jack. I worked with Charlie years ago on Spin City and he is a singular talent who has owned the screen in some of the most unforgettable films and television series ever made.
Charlie Sheen also shared his excitement about returning to series television:
I’ve always heard the moments that truly matter happen when they’re supposed to. The good folks at AMC have played a huge hand in deciding that moment is now. It’s no secret that it’s been a minute, and I’m thrilled to be going back on television in such a meaningful way in an equally wonderful show. The crew has reassembled – suffice it to say, it’s time to give the people what they want.
A History of Father-Son Collaborations
Happy Jack is the latest in a long line of professional collaborations between Charlie and Martin Sheen. The two previously played father and son in several high-profile projects. These include Oliver Stoneβs classic 1987 film Wall Street and the FX multi-camera sitcom Anger Management. Martin Sheen also earned an Emmy nomination for a memorable guest-starring appearance on Charlie’s former blockbuster series Two and a Half Men.
Production for the opening six-episode run of Happy Jack will take place on the historic Warner Bros. Studios lot in Burbank, California. The production will use the same soundstage where the iconic sitcom Friends was filmed. International distribution rights will be presented to global buyers by AMC Global Media at MIPCOM.
