The BBC has announced that the Liverpool-set crime drama This City Is Ours will return for its second season on Sunday, October 25, 2026. The eight-part series, produced by Left Bank Pictures and created by lead writer Stephen Butchard, will have all episodes released simultaneously on BBC iPlayer. Traditional viewers can watch weekly broadcasts on BBC One.

The BBC One television broadcast will air episodes on Sunday and Monday nights at 9 p.m., beginning on premiere night. The second episode is scheduled for Monday, October 26, with the remaining episodes following the same dual-night schedule.

What to Expect in Season 2

Picking up after the events of the first season, the narrative follows Michael Kavanagh, played by James Nelson-Joyce, and his partner Diana Williams, portrayed by Hannah Onslow. Their attempt to start a new life in Spain is abruptly cut short.

The couple is drawn back into the criminal world to answer questions about the death of Ricardo, a member of the Colombian cartel killed in the season one finale. In Liverpool, tensions continue to rise among the remaining members of the gang, threatening the rest of the empire.

Further complicating matters, an old-school gangster from the era of Ronnie Phelan-played in the first season by Sean Bean-has been released from prison and is demanding compensation from the firm.

New Faces and Returning Cast

James Nelson-Joyce returns to lead the cast after winning Best Breakthrough Talent at the 2025 RTS North West Awards and receiving a BAFTA Television Award nomination for Best Actor. He is joined by returning co-stars Hannah Onslow, Jack McMullen as Jamie Phelan, Mike Noble as Banksey, and Julie Graham as Elaine Phelan.

The second season also introduces new cast members:

  • Shaun Evans (Endeavour, Until I Kill You) joins the cast as Ozzie Thompson, a former gangster from Ronnie’s era who is recently out of prison.
  • Álvaro Morte (Money Heist, The Wheel of Time) portrays Felipe Guzman, a member of the Colombian cartel and the younger brother of the murdered Ricardo.

Additional returning cast members include Laura Aikman as Rachel Duffy, Kevin Harvey as Bobby Duffy, Saoirse-Monica Jackson as Cheryl Crawford, Darci Shaw as Melissa Sullivan, Adam Abbou as Freddie, and Bobby Schofield as Bonehead.

Production and Crew

Created and written by Stephen Butchard, with an additional episode by Robbie O’Neill, the second season was filmed primarily in and around Liverpool, with additional production in Spain.

Saul Dibb returns as the lead director, joined by returning director John Hayes and new addition Chris Baugh. Simon Maloney serves as series producer, and Nathan Juckes produces block two. Executive producers include Andy Harries, Rebecca Hodgson, and Sian McWilliams for Left Bank Pictures, alongside Stephen Butchard, Saul Dibb, and Jo McClellan for the BBC. Sony Pictures Television handles international distribution.

Season one premiered in March 2025, drawing an average audience of 6.2 million viewers and earning BAFTA Television Award nominations for Best Drama and Leading Actor. Viewers can stream the first season on BBC iPlayer ahead of the new release.
