Hollywood hairstylist Chris Appleton has officially joined the cast of Strictly Come Dancing as the fourth celebrity contestant on the BBC One television show. Known worldwide for his extensive work with high-profile entertainment figures, Appleton is stepping away from the salon floor to test his skills in the ballroom.

For the competition, Appleton has been paired with professional dancer Amy Dowden. During their opening week performance, the duo earned a score of 16 points for their Tango routine, which was set to Alice Merton’s track “No Roots.” The performance placed the pair 12th out of 15 competing couples on the leaderboard.

A Star-Studded Background in Beauty and Entertainment

The 43-year-old beauty industry professional has established a prominent career working with top-tier celebrities, including Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Sofía Vergara, Katy Perry, and Ariana Grande. Among his styling achievements, he famously conceptualized Grande’s signature ponytail hairstyle. Additionally, Appleton serves as a long-term stylist and close personal friend to Kim Kardashian, frequently appearing alongside her on the reality television series The Kardashians.

Appleton’s international reputation is further cemented through his role as creative director for Color Wow, with his styling work regularly featured on the covers of major publications such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vanity Fair. Earlier this year, he added author to his resume with the release of his debut memoir, Your Roots Don’t Define You, which landed on the New York Times Best Sellers list.

Stepping Into the Strictly Ballroom

Announcing his participation in the BBC dance competition, Appleton expressed excitement and humility regarding the upcoming challenge.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Strictly Come Dancing and coming home to the UK for this incredible experience. I’ve always believed that the best things happen when you take a chance and try something new. I may know my way around a salon floor, but the dance floor is a whole different story – and I can’t wait to get started.”

Appleton joins an eclectic lineup for the show’s upcoming series, alongside previously announced contestants including Australian singer-songwriter Delta Goodrem, EastEnders actress Lacey Turner, and television personality Dani Dyer. The hit BBC One competition continues its run throughout the autumn season, with head judge Shirley Ballas and the rest of the judging panel evaluating the celebrity contestants.
