Jones passed away unexpectedly on August 21, 2026, at the age of 53 due to a health matter. His passing left a significant void in the north St. Louis County community, where he had served as mayor since 2013.
Carter was sworn into office immediately after the special board meeting. She serves on the city’s zoning commission and works as an upper-level relationship manager with U.S. Bank. In addition to her corporate and municipal roles, she is an active member of the Regional Business Council and the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis.

Mayor Jones was buried on September 3 at Calvary Cemetery in north St. Louis. Following his passing, Aldermanic President Kenneth Robinson temporarily carried out mayoral duties to ensure administrative continuity. With Carter’s official appointment, the city moves into a stable transition phase.
