Diddy’s Prison Release Date Pushed Back to March 2028

Federal Bureau of Prisons records show that Sean “Diddy” Combs has had his projected release date pushed back to March 2028. The adjustment comes amid heightened scrutiny regarding his conditions of confinement at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, where he is currently serving a 50-month sentence.

According to BOP records, the music mogul’s release date moved from January 21, 2028, to early March 2028. The roughly six-week shift follows investigative reports from NBC News alleging that Combs received preferential treatment and access to prohibited items while behind bars.

Reports of Contraband and Special Treatment Behind Bars

The update to Combs’ release timeline follows allegations that the 56-year-old inmate utilized outside funds to pay fellow prisoners thousands of dollars per month. According to published reports, these payments allegedly covered services such as cooking custom meals, cleaning living areas, handling laundry, and providing massages.

Additional reports claimed Combs had access to unauthorized cellphones, alcohol including cognac, and communication tools. A source cited by media outlets indicated that Combs used a contraband device to view social media and photographs, prompting prison authorities to move him to the Special Housing Unit, commonly known as solitary confinement.

Federal prison officials have not publicly confirmed the specific reasons for the schedule change or the allegations of rule violations. In a statement addressing institutional security, the BOP noted that it does not comment on the conditions of confinement for individual inmates.

“Like all correctional agencies, contraband, particularly cell phones, narcotics, and weapons, remains a constant challenge,” the BOP said in a statement. “We are fully committed to safeguarding everyone in our custody and to maintaining the safety and security of our correctional staff and surrounding communities.”

Legal Representation Responds to Increased Scrutiny

Representatives for Combs have pushed back against the constant media attention surrounding his daily routine in federal custody. Juda Engelmayer, a spokesperson for Combs, criticized the volume of reporting dedicated to his client’s incarceration.

“The continued scrutiny of every mundane detail of Sean Combs’s life in prison has reached the point where the media characterizes ordinary prison life as news,” Engelmayer stated. “The only real news is that Sean continues to serve his sentence within the rules and he patiently awaits the court’s decision on his appeal.”

Regarding the shifting release date, Combs’ legal team maintained that they receive no formal explanation from prison administrators regarding how projected release dates are calculated or adjusted.

Conviction and Sentencing

Combs began serving his sentence following a high-profile federal trial. In July 2025, a federal jury found him guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution involving former girlfriends Casandra “Cassie” Ventura and an anonymous individual referred to as “Jane.” He was acquitted of racketeering conspiracy and trafficking charges.

U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Combs to 50 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, during an October 3, 2025 hearing. Combs has remained in federal custody since his initial arrest in September 2024. His defense attorneys are actively pursuing an appeal of the conviction and sentence.
