October 8, 2026 2 min read 0 comments

Gadsden County residents spent Monday, Oct. 5, cleaning up from severe weather. Local emergency officials urged communities on Wednesday, Oct. 7, to brace for another round of dangerous conditions as Tropical Storm Isaias tracks toward Florida.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning at 4:43 p.m. Monday for Gadsden, Leon, and Liberty counties. The warning stayed in effect until 9:15 p.m. Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms dropping heavy rain across the region, with accumulated totals reaching 3 to 6 inches. An additional 1 to 3 inches was expected, posing ongoing flash flood risks.

School Closures and Schedule Changes

As the threat from Tropical Storm Isaias intensifies, regional educational and athletic schedules are experiencing major disruptions. All Gadsden County Public Schools and district offices will be closed on Friday, October 9, 2026. District officials stated via social media that the safety of students, employees, families, and the community remains their highest priority.

Neighboring districts, including Leon, Franklin, and Wakulla, reported that they are monitoring the storm closely. Their operations were running normally while they evaluated future updates.

Emergency Preparedness Recommendations

Emergency management officials recommend that residents living within potential path zones take immediate precautions. Essential preparation steps include:

  • Determining whether your residence is situated in a designated flood or evacuation zone.
  • Assembling a 3-to-7-day supply of non-perishable food and at least one gallon of water per person per day.
  • Charging all backup power supplies, mobile devices, and lifesaving medical equipment.
  • Securing outdoor lawn furniture and exterior property items that could become airborne in high winds.
  • Signing up for official local emergency alerts and monitoring updates through the National Weather Service.

Forecasters advise residents to stay vigilant as Isaias tracks northward. They emphasize that minor shifts in the storm’s path can significantly alter local impacts, including heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and coastal flooding.
