Residents across Ghana’s middle, transition, and northern sectors faced a risk of localized rain and thunderstorms on Monday, October 19, 2026. The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) forecast improving sunshine during the day, followed by unsettled conditions in the afternoon and evening.

In its 18-hour impact-based forecast issued at 05:00 UTC and valid from 6:00 a.m., the agency classified potential weather impacts as low to medium risk. The forecast warned commuters and residents of morning mist or fog in forested and mountainous areas, where reduced visibility could affect travel.

Regional Temperature Breakdown and Expected Conditions

Regional temperatures vary across the country, providing distinct weather patterns from the coast to the northern border. GMet data outlines the following expected maximum and minimum ranges:

  • Northern Sector: Maximum temperatures are projected to reach up to 36 degrees Celsius, with evening thunderstorms developing later in the day.
  • Forest Sector: Temperatures are expected to range between 23 and 34 degrees Celsius, alongside early morning mist and patches of fog.
  • Coastal Sector: Readings will span from 24 to 33 degrees Celsius, with slight rain or drizzle possible over parts of Greater Accra and rough sea conditions.

Spreading Weather Systems Across Multiple Sectors

Weather systems currently affecting parts of the Oti, Eastern, and Northern regions are expected to spread to other areas into the night and early morning hours. GMet anticipates slight to moderate rainfall over parts of the Ashanti, Bono, and Bono East regions.

“Mist or fog is expected along the coast and mountainous areas, with slight rain possible over parts of Greater Accra,” the agency noted in its advisory. The Meteorological Agency also cautioned that the state of the sea remains rough, advising mariners, fishermen, and the general public to exercise caution as weather developments unfold.

Public Safety and Precautions

As unsettled atmospheric conditions persist into the night, GMet has advised the public to stay safe and monitor updated forecasts. Individuals traveling through mountainous or forested terrain should remain vigilant of reduced visibility caused by morning fog patches.

Organizations and individuals are encouraged to use GMet’s regular impact-based forecasts-subdivided into morning, afternoon, and evening periods-to plan daily activities efficiently and mitigate potential weather-related disruptions.
