Professor Hannah Fry shared a surprising personal revelation after leaving the BBC reality competition The Celebrity Traitors. She disclosed an unexpected family connection to fellow contestant and comedian Joanne McNally.
The 42-year-old mathematician and author was banished from Ardross Castle after receiving the most votes at a tense Round Table. Fellow contestants targeted Fry because they grew sus**cious of her behavior after original Traitors Maya Jama and James Acaster recruited her into the turret.
An Unexpected Family Discovery Inside Ardross Castle
Speaking to the BBC after her exit from Claudia Winkleman’s game of deception, Fry reflected fondly on her time in the castle. She singled out 43-year-old McNally for high praise, revealing that the pair discovered a familial tie while filming together.
“I really like Joanne. We actually discovered that we’re cousins, by marriage. So her cousin is married to my cousin,” Fry revealed.
Fry described the comedian as being “like sisters” with her during the experience. She added: “We’re basically sisters. I really loved her so much. She described herself as how she came out of the womb as a show pony. That’s the perfect description of that woman.”
Fry continued to praise her newly discovered relative, describing McNally as “phenomenal” and noting that she “knows exactly who she is, and she is totally unapologetic about it.”
Looking Ahead in The Celebrity Traitors
Fry’s brief and turbulent run as a Traitor ended when fellow players turned on her after she struggled to shake off mounting sus**cion. However, she left the competition with strong alliances still intact in her mind. Looking toward the rest of the season, Fry voiced her support for Maya Jama to take home the victory, praising her engaging gameplay and delightful demeanor.
The elimination leaves remaining contestants scrambling to uncover hidden alliances and surviving Traitors as The Celebrity Traitors continues on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
