English golfer Matt Fitzpatrick secured his fourth global victory of the 2026 season on September 27, putting on a steady performance at Le Golf National in Paris to claim the FedEx Open de France by three strokes.
The 32-year-old world number four finished the tournament at 20-under par following a final-round 70. His victory earned him $637,500 from the overall $3.75 million prize purse. Spain’s Angel Hidalgo finished in second place at 17-under par after carding a 67, while local favorite Tom Vaillant tied for third alongside three other competitors after finishing with a 70.
Fitzpatrick entered the final day with a comfortable five-shot lead after matching Seve Ballesteros’ historic 1985 54-hole tournament record score of 19-under par on Saturday. However, his lead briefly shrank to just two strokes during the final round following an aggressive early charge from fellow Spaniard Eugenio Chacarra.
Despite the sudden pressure, the Englishman managed his game down the stretch to seal the championship. This triumph adds to an impressive 2026 campaign that already includes PGA Tour victories at the Valspar Championship and the RBC Heritage, alongside a team win at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside his younger brother, Alex.
The win in Paris also serves as a strong rebound for Fitzpatrick, who had previously expressed frustration over missing the cut at The Open and struggling to find his best form during the PGA Tour’s FedExCup Playoffs earlier in the year.
