Quentin Tarantino’s acclaimed 2019 film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is returning to IMAX theaters on October 30. This special theatrical re-release gives audiences a fresh opportunity to experience the Oscar-winning production on a large screen, building anticipation for the upcoming sequel, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.
IMAX announced the special re-release via its official social media channels. The company shared the original film’s trailer with the caption: “It’s 1969 and Hollywood’s favorite fixer is back, exclusively in IMAX! Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood is coming to the biggest screen on October 30.” Tickets for the limited premium-format engagement are available now.
A Special Screening Ahead of the Cliff Booth Sequel
The return to theaters arrives just before the release of The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. While Tarantino wrote the script for the new project, David Fincher took over directing duties. Brad Pitt will reprise his role as the cool, unflappable stunt double Cliff Booth, continuing the story established in the 1969-set original film.
In addition to the IMAX re-release, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will receive a special screening at AFI FEST 2026 on October 23. That screening will be followed by an in-person conversation with Quentin Tarantino at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
Inside the 1969 Hollywood Masterpiece
Set in Los Angeles during a pivotal year of cultural and industry transformation, Sony Pictures originally marketed the film as a tribute to the final moments of Hollywood’s golden age. The story follows television actor Rick Dalton, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, as he struggles to sustain his career alongside his longtime stunt double and best friend, Cliff Booth, played by Brad Pitt.
The narrative intertwines their struggles with the life of rising Hollywood star Sharon Tate, portrayed by Margot Robbie, who lives next door to Dalton. Upon its initial release, the comedy-drama became a massive commercial and critical success, grossing more than $378 million worldwide against a $90 million production budget.
Accolades and Star-Studded Cast
The film dominated the awards circuit, earning 10 nominations at the 92nd Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. Brad Pitt won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Cliff Booth.
Beyond its lead trio, the movie featured an expansive ensemble cast, including:
- Al Pacino
- Kurt Russell
- Dakota Fanning
- Margaret Qualley
- Timothy Olyphant
- Bruce Dern
- Damian Lewis
- Mike Moh
- Austin Butler
- Sydney Sweeney
Fans looking to revisit the sun-drenched streets of 1969 Los Angeles in premium large-format IMAX can purchase tickets now for the October 30 engagement, ahead of the franchise’s continuation.
