India’s scheduled quarter-final clash against Afghanistan was canceled before the toss could take place. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s fixture against Hong Kong met the exact same fate, ending any chance of on-field action for the day. Tournament guidelines dictate that if the upcoming semi-finals are also washed out, the higher-seeded teams will automatically advance to the gold medal match. A similar scenario applies to the final itself. If the gold medal match cannot produce a result due to rain and the minimum threshold of five overs per side cannot be met, the higher seed will be awarded the gold medal.
This seeding-based outcome mirrors the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. In that tournament, India secured the gold medal after the final against Afghanistan was abandoned following 18.2 overs of the first innings.
