British actor and comedian Rowan Atkinson will return to the live stage to perform his most iconic comic characters, including Mr. Bean and Blackadder. The brand-new West End production is titled Rowan Live.
The theatrical engagement features a strictly limited 30-performance run. It will operate from February 8 to March 13, 2027, at London’s Gillian Lynne Theatre. The production showcases a combination of classic comedy routines from historic television programs like Not the Nine O’Clock News alongside brand-new material.
Reuniting a Legendary Creative Partnership
For this milestone theatrical return, Atkinson has collaborated closely with his long-time creative partners: writer Richard Curtis, writer Ben Elton, and composer Howard Goodall. The core creative team first formed their comedic partnership during their university years at Oxford. They later achieved mainstream popularity on British television throughout the 1980s.
Reflecting on the upcoming run, Rowan Atkinson shared his perspective on heading back to the stage:
It is 40 years since I last did a comedy sketch show in the West End. I thought it would be fun to perform again the sketches that began it all for myself and Richard Curtis, and in which my most well-known characters originated, alongside some surprise new material written especially for this show.
Richard Curtis also commented on the enduring legacy of his longtime collaborator. He noted that it has been 50 years since he first watched Atkinson perform live on stage in 1976.
“It was instantly clear to all of us that we were watching a unique, once-in-a-lifetime talent,” Curtis said. “Over the summer, we started putting this show together in front of a small audience, and all that magic, that unique accuracy and comic genius is still there for all to see.”
Production Details and Ticket Information
Rowan Live will be directed by Raz Shaw. The production takes over the Gillian Lynne Theatre following the conclusion of its current resident show, My Neighbour Totoro, which wraps up its run on January 3, 2027.
Priority tickets for the limited season become available through official channels starting at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, October 7.
