Australian actress Samara Weaving drew fresh attention on October 8 after sharing new photos online. Her busy 2026 film schedule and upcoming role as Emma Frost in Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated X-Men reboot continue to expand her profile across Hollywood.
The recent photos show Weaving posing in a warm interior featuring long curtains, gold-toned walls, and mirrors reflecting her under amber lighting. The actress is dressed in a black top with a lace midsection and bralette-style neckline, paired with wide-leg dark gray pleated trousers and a black belt. Her blonde hair is styled in loose waves, while her tattoos are clearly visible on her arm.
A Massive Year Backed by Horror Success and Marvel Casting
The casual social media moments arrive in the middle of a massive year for Weaving. On July 31, Deadline reported that Weaving would officially step into the role of telepathic mutant Emma Frost in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men movie. Variety confirmed the casting, noting the feature will be directed by Jake Schreier, who previously oversaw Thunderbolts. According to Deadline, Weaving’s audition stood out as too hard to beat during an extensive search for the iconic character.
Weaving joins a stacked ensemble cast that features Kit Connor as Cyclops, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister alter ego Nathaniel Milbury. The film is currently slated to hit theaters on May 5, 2028.
Before stepping into her first official public appearance as the White Queen, Weaving has also kept fans engaged by diving deep into the source material. She previously shared photos of herself reading through various Emma Frost comic runs, including her solo series Astonishing X-Men and storylines tied to the Krakoan Age-era Hellfire Gala, captioning the post with a playful “Don’t read into it.”
Balancing Blockbusters With Genre Roots
While her future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe approaches, Weaving has not left the horror genre behind. She returned as Grace in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, released in 2026 and directed by the Radio Silence duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. Kathryn Newton joined the cast as Grace’s sister, Faith, with Weaving also serving as an executive producer on the project.
She also starred opposite Jason Segel in Over Your Dead Body, an R-rated remake of the Norwegian thriller The Trip. Collider reported that the film hit a significant 50-day streaming milestone. Additionally, her thriller project Carolina Caroline earned a strong 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes, further cementing her status as a leading talent in contemporary genre filmmaking.
Looking ahead, Weaving’s slate continues to grow. She is set to lead the environmental thriller Hivemind opposite Nicholas Braun of Succession, directed by Ciarán Foy and filmed in Dublin. Amazon MGM Studios has boarded the project for an international release on Prime Video. Other projects lined up for the actress include the Paramount action thriller Bella and a biographical film about Elizabeth Patterson Bonaparte titled Liz.
Emma Frost’s Historic Comic Legacy
In Marvel Comics lore, Emma Frost has a rich history that spans decades, first debuting in 1980’s The Uncanny X-Men #129 by writer Chris Claremont and artist John Byrne. Starting as the villainous White Queen of the Hellfire Club, the character eventually transformed into one of the X-Men’s most vital leaders, allies, and a major love interest for Cyclops.
Live-action adaptations have historically underutilized the character, with past portrayals by Finola Hughes in 1996’s Generation X and January Jones in 2011’s X-Men: First Class leaving fans wanting more. With Marvel Studios now steering the franchise, Weaving’s casting offers a fresh opportunity to give the telepathic mutant the definitive cinematic spotlight she has long deserved.
