Stanley Tucci Plans Semiretirement After 46-Year Career

After a prolific 46-year career in the entertainment industry, acclaimed actor, author, and television host Stanley Tucci is preparing to slow down his professional workload. Turning 66 in November 2026, the Oscar nominee revealed in a recent interview that he is inching toward semiretirement to dedicate more time to his family and explore personal artistic pursuits.

Speaking from his home base, Tucci clarified that he does not intend to step away from the industry completely, but rather reduce his schedule. His upcoming professional slate includes promotional duties for his new Prime Video art heist comedy, Masterplan, alongside ongoing travel and food television projects.

Transitioning to Semiretirement and Family Life

Reflecting on nearly five decades in film and television, Tucci admitted a sense of fatigue alongside a desire to pivot toward other creative outlets. “I don’t think I’ll ever really retire, but I am inching toward semiretirement,” Tucci shared. “I’ve been doing it for 46 years and I’m a little tired. There are just other things I want to do.”

Among those personal goals are painting, sculpting, and directing for the stage. Spending dedicated time with his younger children remains a primary motivation for dialing back his rigorous film production schedule. Tucci shares five children in total, including three adult children from his first marriage to Kate Spath-Tucci-who passed away from breast cancer in 2009-and two young children with his current wife, Felicity Blunt.

Starring in Prime Video’s Masterplan

Despite his plans to scale back, Tucci continues to anchor major projects. He stars as a career criminal named Roger in the Prime Video heist comedy Masterplan, which premiered on October 16, 2026. Directed by Thomas Vincent and co-written by David Wolstencroft, the movie follows a veteran thief who recruits his long-lost children-played by Victor Belmondo and Simona Tabasco-to steal the Mona Lisa from the Louvre.

Tucci noted that the lighthearted script drew inspiration from classic 1960s and 1970s crime films like The Italian Job and The Hot Rock. Alongside Masterplan, Tucci is also filming Tucci in Great Britain, a follow-up travel and culinary series to his popular National Geographic show.

Concerns Over Artificial Intelligence and Digital Legacy

During his interview, Tucci also addressed the rapid rise of artificial intelligence in media, calling the current landscape “a nightmare” when distinguishing between real content and digital forgeries online. While acknowledging appropriate uses of technology in medical research and visual effects, Tucci expressed deep reservations about AI-generated actors replacing human performers.

In a nod to the evolving digital era, Tucci revealed that he recently underwent full-body and facial scans to secure the rights to his own digital avatar. While he has been scanned numerous times over the past decade for film productions, this recent procedure was done with an eye toward posterity. As Tucci remarked with a smile, the scan was done “not just for a specific project… but for eternity.”
